"Izh-350 Planet Sports" - a quick Soviet bike

It is believed that of the entire line of Soviet motorcycles "Izh" is really just one sport. It's easy to guess that this is the Izh-350 Planet Sport.

Motorcycle History

In 1973, the Izhmash plant carried out a real breakthrough: the first motorbike for sport purposes came off the conveyor. He was a bike "Izh Planet Sports." In its appearance, "Izh PS" was not at all similar to the rest of the motorcycle line "Izh". Its design, most likely, was borrowed from Japanese colleagues, because the motorcycle "Izh-350 Sport" recalls some models of Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki.

At that time, the motorcycle looked quite modern. No less good was the quality of manufacturing parts and the level of assembly of the unit itself. Thanks to this "Izh Planet Sports" enjoyed popularity not only in the USSR, but also beyond. Izh-350 Planet Sports was exported to the nearest countries - Great Britain, the Netherlands, etc.

PS could easily compete with Czech CZ or Jawa of the same category (350 cubic centimeters).

The cost of "PS Izh-350" in the first years of its production was 1050 rubles. At that time it was a lot of money. Only a little later the price of the bike fell by 50 rubles. Release of the motorcycle continued until 1984, then it was withdrawn from production.

It is believed that it is the first models of "Izh Planeta Sport" that are distinguished by the high quality of production of parts and assembly of the design itself. This is not surprising, because the Izhmash plant had to demonstrate the high quality of the product for its successful implementation both within the country and outside it.

"Izh PS" was produced in two versions, which have some differences in the parameters of speed, mass, etc.

Factory characteristics of "Izh PS" of 1975 are the following:

• Clearance is 135 mm.
• The weight of the unloaded vehicle is 135 kg;
• The maximum speed is 140 km / h;

• Compression - 10-10,5.

The same parameters in the modification of "Planet Sport" in 1983 look like this:

• Height - 1150 mm;
• Length - 2150 mm;
• Width - 810 mm;
• Clearance - 135 mm;
• The weight of the unloaded vehicle is 155 kg;
• The maximum speed is 135 km / h;
• Acceleration - 0 ... 100 km / h for 11 seconds;
• Engine power - 28 l / s;
• Compression - 8,7-9,2.

Otherwise, the Izh Planeta Sport-350 of 1975 is no different from the 1983 model:

Interesting features of modifications

The 1974 model:

• Is equipped with a Japanese carburetor "Mikuni";
• Chrome direction indicators (like "Izh Jupiter-3" and "Izh Planeta-3");
• Foreign electrical equipment and lighting equipment;
• Self-adhesive labels on the sides and glove boxes;
• Ignition lock Jawa.

The 1975 model:

• Switches on the steering wheel and an ignition switch from a Yamaha motorcycle;

The release of a serial sports motorcycle in the Soviet Union has become a real news for citizens who are not indifferent to the automotive industry of the USSR. At the very beginning of the manufacture of IZH Planet Sports, people talked about the export designation of the bike. The first half a thousand copies were completed with a service book with a unique number for ordering spare parts from the factory.

Owners say that the quality of the motorcycle was unusually high, which seemed somewhat strange for the owners of the car. Those who managed to buy this motorcycle, was lucky to make sure of its excellent characteristics.

In addition to excellent technical data - speed, safety and comfort - it turned out that the "dog" (that's what the young people of that time called it) was also very reliable. The motorcycle could easily pass 50,000 km without significant wear and tear.
