Description

Intellect cards are often called connection diagrams or mental maps. This is a schematic representation of information. In the center of such a map is the main idea (the core), and from it there is a fork (tree-like scheme). Each branch can be a reference to the word-concept, event, task, date, etc. The compilation of intelligence cards in training is usually used to consolidate the studied material, less often as a method of brainstorming. As a rule, this applies to capacious topics that have a system of classifications, terms and additions.

Intelligence card is an example of effective graphic memorization. It can be made individually or collectively. To implement it, you only need a sheet of paper, fantasy and pencils.

History

The development of modern communication diagrams belongs to the British writer and psychologist Tony Buzen and refers to the end of the 1980s. However, this is only an official statement of the method. It is known that even in antiquity there were attempts to schematically depict information. So, the first intelligence card, an example of which refers to the 3rd century, belongs to the philosopher Porfiry of Tyros. Carefully studying the views of Aristotle, he graphically depicted their main categories, the concept of development. His experience in the 13th century was repeated by another philosopher, Raymond Lully.

The method of intelligence cards, developed by Buzen, basically contains ideas of the general semantics of the Polish researcher Alfred Korzhibsky and focuses on the work of both hemispheres of the brain.

Intellect cards are often identified with conceptual maps. However, this is a mistake. The latter were developed by American psychologists in the 1970s and depict the relationship between concepts, concepts, and events. Conceptual maps have a logical structure (one element comes out of the other), and the connection diagrams are radiated (that is, all the elements concentrate around one idea).

It should be noted that such graphical notes have their advantages and disadvantages over other methods. The advantages of it include the structuredness of information and the ease of reading and memorizing it. Ideas become more clear and understandable, they can be covered with a single eye. The shortcomings include a limited scope and the use of only one central concept.

By age and discipline, the method is practically unlimited. The use of an intelligence card in primary school requires special attention. During such gaming mastery of new knowledge, children must learn to single out the main idea, develop associative thinking, coherent speech, enrich the vocabulary. Therefore, the scale of their diagrams is minimal and expands as the child develops intellectually.

Application

Earlier, the use of intelligence cards was met only in school education. Today, this method helps not only students and teachers, but also people of different specialties. Diagrams of links are effective in business, sociology, humanities, engineering and even in day-to-day business planning. Thus, they can be used not only for notes of lectures, books, but also for solving creative tasks, creating presentations, developing projects of varying complexity, compiling organograms.

1. The first example is an intelligence map on the history of Russia in the 17th and 18th centuries. The key concept is the word "Peter I". From it departs four large branches: "Family", "Reforms", "Peasant uprisings", "Economy". Each category has more ramifications, which are filled with more specific information: names, dates, events. This map is a concise but rather capacious summary of the topic that you can use to repeat the material or as a brainstorm before starting to study a new topic.
2. The second work is a diagram of the analysis of human life. A personal photo is placed in the center, and branches departing from it correspond to the main spheres of life: personal, professional, creative, intellectual, physical health, etc. Such a map helps to adequately assess the current state of affairs and, by results, design future steps and solutions that Help to fill in the gaps and cope with certain shortcomings.

As can be seen, the purposes of using the smart card method are different, but the efficiency can be equally high.

Tips for creating

In the theory of connection diagrams, everything looks almost flawless. And what about practice? How to properly compile an intelligence card so that it gives the maximum effect? Here it is necessary to take into account a number of points:

• As a rule, in the center of the card is placed a key concept. If it is necessary to display the time scale, the past is placed on the left side, and the future time is on the right side.
• From the core - the central idea - it is better to set a maximum of 5-7 branches. Otherwise, the map will be difficult to perceive. If the topic requires a larger scale, then the elements should be grouped by some kind of feature.
• The third point is the consistency or consistency of the map. It deals with the interconnection of elements. Let's return to the example, indicated above, - the intelligence map on history. With branching, the elements are arranged in a certain, not random order: "Family", "Reforms", "Peasant uprisings", "Economy". They identify a chain of events that are connected with the life and reign of Peter I.
• A symmetric intelligence card is an example of fast and lasting memorization of information. Do not forget about this.
• And one more advice concerning the design of the diagram. A sheet of paper should be placed horizontally. So there is more space for graphic manipulation, and there is the possibility of further modeling the map. For associative perception, you can use symbols, drawings, different colors of pens or pencils.
