In what cases is breathing difficult?

Breathing can be difficult for physiological reasons, such as physical activity, and due to pathological changes in the body. What diseases can lead to the fact that breathing will be difficult?

Edema Quincke

This is an acute allergic reaction to various allergens, which is characterized by a very rapid (sometimes lightning) development. Quincke's edema can occur due to allergens in medications, food, household chemicals or plants. With this disease, breathing is difficult because the patient begins to sweat lips, cheeks and, most dangerous, the pharynx after contact with the allergen. If a person who has begun swelling Quincke, not to provide emergency medical care, then he may even die of asphyxia.

If someone unexpectedly outside the walls of the medical institution develops Quincke's edema, first of all it is necessary to call an ambulance. Before the ambulance arrives, it is necessary to give the victim antihistamine drugs, for example, diphenhydramine or suprastin, and open the respiratory passages.

Bronchial asthma

Difficulty breathing due to bronchial asthma is due to spasm of small bronchioles and their blockage by a viscous secret. Exhalation of the patient during an attack of bronchial asthma is accompanied by characteristic wheezing and whistling. Also, with bronchial asthma, some patients find it hard to breathe in the cold.

Most patients suffering from chronic bronchial asthma constantly carry inhalers with bronchodilators. In order for the airway passage to expand and the patient can breathe freely, it is necessary either to inhale from a special inhaler or to inject any bronchodilator. If the patient is simply difficult to breathe in the cold, then you should go into a warm room for a while, and then you can continue the path, breathing should be restored.

Inhalation of foreign bodies

Accidental inhalation of foreign bodies is characteristic of small children who play without the supervision of their parents. If a healthy baby suddenly starts coughing, gasping and breathing is difficult, then most likely he tried to swallow a small object that "hit the wrong throat".

First of all, it is necessary to help the child to self-loosen the foreign object that fell into the throat. To do this, it is necessary to press the baby's chest and abdomen to a hard surface and repeatedly strike with force between the shoulder blades. If this method does not help, you can turn the child upside down and shake. If the object was not obtained and it was not possible, it is necessary to urgently take the child to the hospital, while minimizing his movements, so that the foreign object does not descend deeper.

High Altitude Hypoxia

At very high altitudes, it is almost always difficult to breathe, which is why many climbers going to high mountains, like Mount Everest, always take their breathing bottles with them. At a primary finding at an altitude of more than 3000 meters above sea level, the person begins such symptoms as chest pain, cough, hypoxia, vomiting. Usually after a couple of days a person fully adapts.

In order to minimize the manifestation of pathological symptoms of high altitude hypoxia, it is necessary to gradually adapt to the altitude, that is, to make long stops at each new elevation.

Pneumonia

With pneumonia, difficulty with breathing can start quite unexpectedly. In addition, this disease can be accompanied by a fever, cough or chills. The characteristic signs of pneumonia are inflating the wings of the nose, and the retraction of the ribs during breathing.

Inflammation of the lungs should be treated in a hospital under the supervision of specialists (although in some cases it is possible to undergo a course of treatment at home). With the right approach to treatment and the absence of complications, this disease passes quickly enough.

The article listed only part of the diseases, which are accompanied by difficulty breathing. In fact, there are many more, so in every case of a violation of respiratory function, you must urgently seek medical help!
