Hydrotarax lung: causes, symptoms and treatments

Hydrotarax of the lung is a rather serious condition, which is accompanied by the accumulation of fluid in the pleural cavity. However, this pathology is not the result of the inflammatory process, but arises from the increase in hydrostatic pressure in the vessels of the circulatory system.

Hydrotarax lung: causes and forms of the disease

As already mentioned, the accumulation of fluid in the cavity between the pleural sheets is caused by a change in the pressure inside the vessels. But what is the reason for its increase? In fact, lung hydrothorax can be the result of a variety of diseases:

  • First of all it is necessary to note heart failure, which is often accompanied by such complications.
  • For reasons also include some kidney diseases, in particular amyloidosis and glomerulonephritis.
  • Decrease in the number of hormones secreted by the thyroid gland.
  • Cirrhosis of the liver often leads to a change in the oncotic blood pressure, which, in turn, can cause accumulation of fluid.
  • A tumor of large size, located in the mediastinum and squeezing large vessels.
  • Expressed deficiency of ascorbic acid and some vitamins in the body.
  • Violation of normal outflow of lymph.

Lung hydrothorax and its symptoms

At the initial stages such a state, as a rule, does not affect the condition of a person. Nevertheless, with the increase in the amount of fluid in the pleural cavity, the first symptoms begin to appear. As a rule, patients complain of a feeling of heaviness in the chest. In the future, there are problems with breathing. The patient is increasingly feeling a lack of air. Therefore, over time, breathing becomes more frequent, but superficial. Gidrotarax lung almost never causes neither a fever nor chest pain. Nevertheless, when a large amount of fluid accumulates in the body, one side of the chest can rise and become more convex. Upon close examination, it can be seen that the affected area lags behind during respiratory movements. The patient is difficult to lie or engage in physical labor - reflexively, he tries to take a semi-sitting position, in which it is much easier to breathe.

Hydrotarax lung: diagnostic methods

Undoubtedly, first of all, it is necessary to conduct a full diagnosis, which not only helps to confirm the presence of fluid in the pleural cavity, but also to find out the cause of the pathology. For the beginning the patient hands over standard analyzes of blood and urine, which make it possible to check the presence of infection and find out the state of the kidneys. In addition, ultrasound and x-ray studies, as well as puncture of the pleural cavity.

Hydrotarax lung: treatment

In fact, the process of treatment directly depends on the cause of accumulation of the transudate in the pleural cavity. For example, with cardiovascular insufficiency, taking appropriate drugs, diet, physical activity and lack of stress are required. At the same time, cirrhosis not only shows special nutrition, but also the use of hepatoprotectors. In those cases where a large amount of fluid has accumulated in the pleural cavity and it strongly compresses the lungs, it is removed during the puncture.
