During the operation of the wrist watch, their dial dims over time, and defects appear on the surface of the glass. There are several ways that you can return the product to its original attractive appearance. Let's find out how to polish the glass on the watch, eliminate scratches and scratches.

Material type

Before polishing the glass on the watch from scratches, you need to determine what material it is made of. It can be natural, organic or the most expensive - sapphire crystal.

The cheapest is organic material. A little more will have to tinker with natural glass, which is more stiff than the previous version. In the case of sapphire bases, it will be necessary to work as carefully as possible, because of their tendency to crack in contact with hard surfaces.

Means for polishing

How to polish the scratches on the watch glass? This will require the following materials:

  • Toothpaste;
  • Special paste for polishing GOI;
  • Cotton wool;
  • alcohol;
  • Mineral oil ;
  • Pieces of cloth of different thickness;
  • Polishing wheel;
  • Sander.

How to remove small scratches from organic glass?

If you have to deal with brittle organic glass, which has minor defects, then in order to eliminate them, toothpaste will do. Use here is an exceptionally colorless paste that does not contain granular components and does not have the effect of bleaching.

How to polish the glass on the watch in the presence of small scratches? To begin with, a small amount of toothpaste is applied to a prepared piece of cotton wool. You can also use a piece of thin cloth or a felt cloth, which is intended for rubbing the optics.

The glass is laid on a flat, hard surface. Light smooth movements in one direction, with little or no pressure, polishing the product.

Once the defects disappear from the glass, the latter wipes away from the traces of the toothpaste with a clean, water-moistened cotton swab. If the polishing has not allowed to eliminate all scratches and scrapes, it is worth repeating the procedure several more times.

The method presented is effective when polishing organic glass. It is also suitable for removing defects from the surface of a plastic watch. However, it is irrational to resort to it for the processing of sapphire glass, which can only be polished in fairly crude ways.

Polishing of natural glass

To polish the watch glass at home, made from a natural base, with toothpaste will be extremely problematic. To eliminate defects, you will need to use a grinder.

The work is done in the following order:

  1. The glass is removed from the watch case and gently rubbed from the contaminations with a cotton swab dampened with alcohol solution.
  2. A grinding wheel is installed on the grinder. The latter is processed by GOI paste of small grain size, after which it starts at low speed.
  3. The glass is pressed lightly against the circle. Polishing is carried out in the direction from the edges of the product to its central part.
  4. As soon as the scrapes disappear, a small amount of mineral oil is applied to the piece of cloth. With the help of circular movements in one direction, finishing polishing is performed, which makes it possible to achieve full transparency of the product.
  5. Finally, the remaining mineral oil is removed with a cotton swab dampened with alcohol.

Polishing of sapphire crystal

How to polish glass on a watch made of sapphire base? One of the most effective solutions here looks like the use of GOI paste, intended for "rough" work. You can buy a polishing substance at almost every hardware store.

As in the previous case, the glass is previously removed from the watch case. GOI paste of coarse grain is applied to a pre-moistened cotton swab. Next, the glass is polished in a circular motion for several minutes. Finally, the product is wiped with cloth moistened with alcohol.

If there are large scratches on the surface of the sapphire glass, the procedure is carried out using a polishing wheel on the grinder. In order not to damage the product, in the process of work it is necessary to remain vigilant, carrying out delicate surface treatment.

Some sapphire glasses of wristwatches contain anti-reflective coating. In this case, it is not recommended to resort to its self-processing. To eliminate defects in this situation, it is better to take the watch to the workshop.
