How to make plastic slopes with your own hands

In the conditions of city life (and in many villages), plastic windows have long since become a symbol of prosperity in everyday life. The installation of windows specialists are engaged, because there are in the process of installation nuances unknown to the common man in the street. But you can finish the design of a new opening yourself - by installing slopes from plastic on the windows.

This is a complicated matter only at first glance. When there is a detailed instruction and a list of materials / tools at hand, every home owner can easily cope with the task.

When to do slopes on windows

Often, after installing the windows, the owners do not agree to the professional installation of slopes. This is due to the considerable price of the service. Often you can hear that the window will not suffer from the fact that for a while it will "live" without proper registration. However, such an opinion is an error. Few people succeed soon after installing the structures themselves to strengthen the slopes made of plastic. That time is not enough, it's laziness, but how many of them can interfere ...

In fact, everyone who really knows the expert will not name one reason why the window should be "brought to mind" as quickly as possible:

  • The mounting foam, which is filled with cracks and gaps after installation, is quickly destroyed under the influence of sunlight;
  • In the foam, because of its porous structure, moisture easily penetrates, which can both lead to the appearance of mold, and during freezing destroy the treated area;
  • In due course, due to atmospheric influences, crevices may appear between the foam and the window frame, and all the efforts of professionals will be in vain;
  • Uncovered foam quickly loses its ability to heat insulation.

This is not the whole list of reasons, but it's enough to understand that the slopes of plastic (with their own hands or with the help of professionals - are not important) must be built without postponing business in the long box.

Selection of materials for slopes

Plastic slopes are used for interior and exterior decoration of a building. For each type of work will need certain tools and materials. The best way is to collect everything you need in one place in advance. So, the list of materials:

  1. Directly the PVC panels. Choosing them, you need to know exactly the size of the window, including the depth by which you determine the width of the panel.
  2. The decoration of the slopes with plastic will require the purchase of the F-profile in order to turn the outside.
  3. The side adjoining is edged with the P-profile (it may not be useful if the foamed area along the whole perimeter of the opening is wider than 2 cm).
  4. Scotch tape for painting works.
  5. Mounting foam - a pair of cylinders.
  6. Glue that can dry quickly.
  7. White acrylic silicone.

Required Tools

Here is a list of tools with which we will sew up slopes with plastic. With your own hands, you can not bring the window openings to your senses - build a palace! There would be a desire, well, of course, certain skills. So, for work we need:

  1. Triangle, pencil and tape measure - for precise measurements and outlines of corners.
  2. A special gun used for balloons with mounting foam (it will not be needed if the balloon has a nozzle).
  3. "Bulgarian" or hacksaw for metal - to quickly cut out of plastic slopes of the right size. Although, with a great desire and the absence of such tools, you can use a large clerical knife - just prepare for him more spare blades.
  4. Pistol for extruding silicone and sealants from tubes.

When everything is ready, you can proceed to a detailed study of the instruction on the stages of work.

Treatment of external slope

You can choose how to close a slope from the outside of the house. Distributed in the network advice on the use of sealants on a silicone-based or sealing tape made of polyurethane with the ability to self-expansion.

This is a good method, but the adhesion of the paint for the facade with sealants leaves much to be desired, and after a while the bases can peel off from each other, depriving the foam of the necessary protection. This must be taken into account when solving the problem of embedding external slopes.

The best option is plastering with glue used for tiles. Its resistance to the influence of moisture and frost will be the ideal argument in favor of this particular method of processing slopes.

Internal slopes

From the side of the dwelling itself, it is possible to seal a slope in various ways. Previously, all the windows were finished with plaster due to the ease of its application and the low cost of the material. Unfortunately, plaster can lead to supercooling of the slope and accumulation of condensate. Therefore, now more often prefer plastic-made slopes.

Basic stages of manufacturing

At the first stage, there are two options:

  1. When the gap between the wall and the opening of the window is wider than two centimeters, the unevenness of the filled foam is cut off and a groove is made in it, the thickness of which corresponds to the panel made of plastic. So prepare the entire perimeter of the box.
  2. If the width of the gap is limited to two centimeters or less, then we remove only those areas of frozen foam that can interfere with the installation.

Stage two. Preparing the panels for installation begins. It is necessary to decide how the panels will be joined - at a right angle or at an angle of 45 °. A more aesthetic looks like an acute angle joint. The necessary measurements are made (roulette, a simple pencil and a triangle will be useful here). Then, with the existing tool, we cut off future slopes. Verify the correctness of the measurements can be by applying to the desired location of the installation.

The third stage of work involves the installation of plastic blanks. Panels are attached either to glue placed in the groove, or inserted into the glued to the box P-profile. The remaining cracks between the wall and the slopes are filled with foam, which will hold the structure well.

In this case, this material is applied by a thin strip, which in the process will expand (on the cylinders indicate the percentage of expansion). If to overdo with foam, it, having increased, deforms plastic.

To prevent this from happening, and the slopes are even, plastic panels are attached to the wall with paint tape.

After the drying of the foam, the fourth stage of fastening of the slopes comes. It consists in gluing the F-profile along the perimeter of the opening.

The final stage is the smoothing of joints with silicone. It is carefully applied to the seams and smoothed with a damp rag.

Summing up, it will be useful to say a few words about the merits and demerits of such slopes.

Advantages of using plastic panels

  1. PVC materials have a very long service life.
  2. Total costs for all products do not hit the family budget, since the plastic panels are distinguished by a democratic price.
  3. Easy installation and short installation time (one slope is installed about 60 minutes).
  4. Ease of care. They are easily wiped or washed with warm water and mild detergent.

What are the disadvantages

  1. Plastic is known for its softness and instability to mechanical damage. If a dent or crack appears, the panel must be replaced completely.
  2. PVC products are not classified as environmentally friendly. Comments are superfluous.
  3. The plastic is extremely flammable and toxic when burning.

Now that everything is ready, the characteristics of the material and instructions for working with it have been studied, there should not be any questions about how to make slopes from plastic.

This article describes the most common technique for finalizing the opening of plastic windows. It is easy to use and does not require a lot of consumables.
