How to make automatic gates by yourself

It is difficult to find a person who does not seek comfort, would not like to automate some household processes. Many are eager to do it themselves. For example, one of the modern "amenities" is an automatic gate. With their own hands, they can be opened and closed with a light push of a button on the console. Most often they are installed at the entrance to the site, in the garage.

The simplest of them by design are swinging, they almost do not differ from the usual ones, since the main difference between them, the electric drive, is not visible.

Usually these gates are bivalves that open inside or out. It is worth noting that it is customary to open them all the same to the outside. First, fire safety rules require this, and secondly, it is much more convenient.

Automatic swing gates with own hands

This type of swing gates has the following components:

  • Rigid metal frame, assembled from profile pipes (40x30 and 60x30);
  • Sheathing of corrugated board, wood or sandwich panels (when installing the entrance to the site of the leaf are sometimes made of forged gratings);
  • Stand of profile pipe (60x30);
  • Loops;
  • Metal gate valve.

Before proceeding with installation, it should be borne in mind that automatic gates are mounted on their own posts, which can be made from a profile pipe with a square cross-section (starting from 100x100 mm), wooden beams, concrete or bricks. Regardless of the choice of material, the pillars must necessarily be concreted to the ground, at a minimum, to a depth of 1 m.

Consider the installation of load-bearing poles in the example of brick. As a rule, a profile pipe (100x100 mm) or a channel is installed in their central part. They are welded to the armature and then outwardly insert three embedded parts, through which a profile pipe is fixed to the poles at the height of the gate. To this tube, the loops are subsequently welded. At an altitude of about one meter from the surface of the earth to the pillars also attach mortgages to the drives.

The metal structure of the gates is assembled from the outer base (60x30 mm) and the inner frame (40x30 mm), which is welded to the outer one. It serves to increase stiffness. Metal frame after welding primed (ready for painting). Usually automatic garage doors with their own hands paint with alkyd enamel, designed for outdoor work.

The inner frame of the frame is covered with corrugated board, wood, sandwich panels or similar sheathing materials, which are fixed with screws or rivets.

Automatic gates with their own hands are hung on hinges that have been welded to the posts - profile tubes (60x30 mm). At this stage it is very important to make sure there is no distortion of the structure. This can easily be done using a level.

The next stage of installation is the conversion of conventional gates into automatic ones. The automatic drive is selected based on the distance between the inner edge of the post and the loop. Possible options:

  • Linear automatic drive (if it is not more than 150 mm) - more modern and aesthetic due to lack of levers;
  • Lever - otherwise (more than 150 mm).

Automatics can be installed only after the final adjustment of the ease of the flaps. Automatic gates with their own hands can be opened with difficulty, and this is unacceptable. It is imperative to find out the cause and eliminate it.

It can be in the warp of pillars or frames, unshielded loops. If the drives do not move level, the rod will become skewed and the drive will jam.

When installing automation, you need to focus on the installation distances specified in the instructions of the selected model.

Connecting the electric drive to the network is carried out with the help of an electric cable - its insulating pipes (made of PVC) are laid inside the poles. To the switchboard, the automation is connected with a three-wire cable.
