How to make a wood splitter homemade? Self-made hydraulic wood splitter with own hands

At the moment, something is being improved in the world of modern technologies, and electricity and power sources allow a person to make their work even easier. Have eased and part of the male work, now instead of the traditional ax you can use a wood splitter.

Prehistory

Everybody knows about such simple impact instruments that serve for splitting logs quite a long time and are quite effective: cleavers, axes, wedges, sledgehammers. But this work is given very hard for a woman or an elderly person, and it can turn out to be unsafe too. The ax sometimes breaks off from the ax handle, causing a mismanaged woodcutter to be severely injured. Fragments or pieces of metal that can split off from the back of the blade can injure the person or hands of the worker. In addition, most people who make a large number of shock movements, often suffer from diseases of the musculoskeletal system.

In this regard, it can be called more effective an unstressed way of splitting chocks by pushing it onto a cone wedge. In this case it is simply done by planting chocks on the wedge. And the device itself - a self-made wood splitter - works like this: by means of a winch or conveyor, if there are any in the household, the choke is fed to the wood splitter, after which it is installed on the lifting cylinder of the hydraulic jack serving as the main element of the device. The swivel cross member is then retracted to the required angle for easy installation of the chock, and then the crosspiece must be locked in place.

Fine tuning

If the distance from the upper end of the chock to the root of the blade is too large, then by means of the handwheel the wedge should be lowered until it clamps to the chock. It is desirable that the pointed end of the blade is located at the center of the log or opposite to the crack present in its end face. After that, the pump handle allows you to bring the lifting jack of the jack into motion, for this, the handle should be lifted up until the conical wedge breaks the chunk into several parts. Punctured logs will fall on the receiving platform.

When the release button is pressed, this causes the lifting jack cylinder to return to its original state. For trouble-free operation of the device, it is necessary to select a suitable jack. For example, a hydraulic jack is characterized by a diameter of a lifting cylinder of 170 millimeters and a force of 15 kilograms on the handle, with a lifting force of 10 tons, which is quite enough for chopping firewood. This self-made hydraulic splitter is able to serve very well.

Features

It should be noted that the conical wedge of the device consists of a pair of cones: the lower one, which is intended for insertion into the end part of the chocks with a taper angle of 20 degrees, and the upper, intended for chopping, with an angle of sharpening of 40 degrees. The height ratio for these cones is one to three.

How to make a wood-cutter homemade

It is clear that there is not always the opportunity and the desire to spend money on expensive units. That's why a homemade wood splitter can be an excellent alternative. You can make a screw and a mechanical unit. First you should consider the first option.

To master the theory of how to make a self-made wood splitter, it is necessary to arm certain materials:

- the electric motor;

- a metal cone at 30 degrees with a left thread in 6-8 millimeters steps and 140-150 millimeters in length, and with an outer radius of 80-85 millimeters;

- a pair of pulleys and a belt of the appropriate size.

Process of creation

The cone is fixed to the shaft by the back side in the center. It is best to weld it or press it into the metal rod. It is not recommended to tighten the cone, as it can be unscrewed during operation. The second end of the shaft serves to secure the pulley. The belt is put in the ditch pulley. It serves to transfer mechanical energy from the engine to a self-made screw spade. This is not the whole wood-splitter, but its most.

With the help of a cotter pin, the second pulley is attached directly to the motor shaft. Some motor models already have pulleys initially. If you have exactly this, then there will not be any unnecessary manipulation. In this case, it remains only to assemble the wood-cutter. To do this, the belt, previously already worn on one pulley, should be pulled on the second.

Screw-type wood splitter: features

The original idea, consisting in the use of a cone with thread for chopping firewood, is offered very often. Such a self-made wood splitter has a fairly simple design. The cone is best made on a lathe, however, if this is not possible, you can use the grinder, with which a large part of the metal is removed from the workpiece. The dummy must first be placed on the intended location of the cone, so that it rotates freely, which will allow controlling the uniformity of the removal of the metal.

A homemade woodcutter, a drawing of which can be compiled independently without much difficulty, consists of several elements. It can be equipped with both gasoline and electric engines, preferably the second option. Engine power must be at least three kilowatts. Since the maximum engine power is achieved at three thousand rpm, it is dangerous to install a tapered nozzle with a thread directly onto the shaft. Best of all, if the speed of rotation of the cone will be in the range of 400-600 rpm. Transmission of rotation from the reducer to the cone is carried out in a chain fashion.

This self-made hydraulic splitter works on a very simple principle. The threaded cone is rotated into the log while rotating, thus splitting it. The device for harvesting logs should be installed next to the woodpile. This will allow you to lay the firewood immediately under the canopy, so you do not have to bow down to the log many times, as is usually the case with an ax.

Homemade rack wood splitters are also very interesting and useful devices. They work on a principle different from screw. Here the feeding of the choke is made on the chute, while the cutting element moves towards them.
