How to get to the museum-estate "Tsaritsyno"? "Tsaritsyno" (museum-estate): prices, photos and mode of operation

In the south of Moscow there is a unique ancient palace and park complex, which is the greatest monument of architecture, history and culture. Tsaritsyno is an open-air museum.

From the history of the complex

The places that we call Tsaritsyno today were known from the end of the 16th century. In those days it was the patrimony of the sister of Boris Godunov, the queen of Irina. Then the village was called Bogorodskoye. At the end of the XVI century, the buildings of the queen were destroyed, the terrain was neglected, only a cascade of ponds was left, which was arranged under the Godunovs.

Since 1633, these places have become known as the Black Dirt. The owners of the village were Boyars Streshnevs, relatives of the first Romanov tsar, Mikhail Fedorovich.

In 1684 the boyar Streshnev yielded to his grandson, AV Golitsyn, who was the favorite of the princess Sophia. When it was deposed, the property of the Golitsyns was confiscated and handed over to the state.

In 1712, according to the Decree of Peter the Great, Black Dirt and surrounding lands passed into the possession of Prince Cantemir, the Moldovan ruler, the faithful ally of Russia in the confrontation with Turkey. In the new possession of Cantemir built a wooden palace on a high hill.

Tsaritsyno under Catherine II

Once the great empress, driving through the territory of the Black Mud, was fascinated by the beauty of these places and without hesitation bought the estate from Prince Cantemir. This happened in 1775. That same summer, for the Empress and her favorite Prince Potemkin was built a wooden palace, consisting of only six rooms, as well as the most necessary office space.

In 1775, the Empress Catherine II ordered the construction of a residence near Moscow on this territory. To create a project and implement it was entrusted to the great architect V. Bazhenov. The Empress wished that the building was in Moorish, or Gothic, style, and the park was arranged as a landscape.

The Tsaritsyno Museum in Moscow

In 1984 a museum of arts and crafts appeared on the territory of the park in Tsaritsyno. At this time the restoration of many buildings of the complex began. In 1993, he received the important status of the museum for that time, and after a while was included in the list of monuments of culture and history of federal significance. Since 2005 the museum-estate "Tsaritsyno" has become the property of the city of Moscow. At the same time, restoration work was begun on the territory of the manor. Landscape works were held under the guidance of architect MR Morina. At present, measures are continuing to improve and restore the park areas - Bakhrushinka and Orekhovskaya outskirts.

Palace ensemble "Tsaritsyno"

This complex, erected by the best architect of the XVIII century V. Bazhenov, later underwent a change. The Grand Palace was built at intervals from 1786 to 1796 at the site of the previously disassembled Bazhenov buildings. It was built by a student of the great architect Matvey Kazakov. In some ways he repeats Bazhenov's plan. It is based on two square-shaped wings in which the chambers of Catherine II, as well as the crown prince Paul, were to be located. The "wings" of the building are connected by a monumental and majestic middle part. At the same time, despite the presence of bright pseudo-gothic elements - towers, pointed arches, the palace is close to the canons of classicism: three-part division of facades, strict symmetry, balance of proportions. In many respects the Great Tsaritsyn Palace demonstrates "the mighty power". It lacks Bazhenov's lightness and playfulness.

Due to the sudden death of the Empress, the palace was not completed. It has never been used in any way. Only in 2005-2007 there was created a museum "Tsaritsyno" (photo you can see in our article). Today it is a very popular place for tourists.

Museum-Estate "Tsaritsyno": Small Palace

All visitors to the unique ensemble are attracted by the Small Palace, located on a hill near the shore of the Upper Pond, near the Figured Bridge. It was built by Vasily Bazhenov in 1776-1778. This small building, rather, resembling a park pavilion, is decorated with the Empress's monogram. Unlike other well-decorated buildings "Tsaritsyno", this majestic and exquisite emblem is the only decoration of the building, except for the complex upper parapet. There is a version that the palace was erected for the empress so that she spent time here for a card game, which she loved very much.

In a relatively small room Bazhenov managed to make six rooms. Two of them are so small that they can only have one person. Perhaps this is a room for sentries. The most spacious is the main oval hall. From the windows of this room offers a magnificent view of the Upper Pond. In the palace all the ceilings are vaulted.

At the beginning of the XIX century it was used as a coffee house, which was visited by people walking in the park. Then there was a guardhouse for the caretakers of the estate. In the future it was not used in any way, and by the beginning of the 20th century it had turned into ruins. For seven years (1989-1996) the building was reconstructed. Now it hosts museum exhibitions.

Bread house

Thousands of tourists visit Tsaritsyno every year. Manor, park-museum, fountains and, of course, the Bread house attract guests here not only from our country, but also from abroad.

Bread house - a building that is part of a unique ensemble, was erected in 1785 by the talented architect V. Bazhenov. It is quite deservedly considered one of the most original and interesting of its buildings. In addition, this is the largest building of the architect, preserved not only in Tsaritsyno, but throughout Moscow.

Its name was given to the Bread House in the 19th century thanks to the high reliefs on the front facades that depict the loaf and salt shaker.

The building was built as a kitchen building. After in 1786, dissatisfied with the work of Bazhenov Catherine II, dismissed the architect from the construction of the estate "Tsaritsyno", led by M. Kazakov.

The kitchens of the Bread House were used for some time for their intended purpose. Here, too, were the offices of the Tsaritsyn estate.

In 1849, by order of Nicholas I, a project was created to adapt this building to an almshouse and a hospital. In 1852 a hospital for peasants was opened here. In 1920, communal apartments appeared spontaneously in the building, which gradually occupied the entire inhabited part of the building. They lasted until the 1970s.

Active restoration work began in 2005, when the museum "Tsaritsyno" moved into the ownership of the city. The bakery has acquired a new parapet, which he planned, but did not have time to build Bazhenov. The courtyard was covered with a glass dome. In 2006, the Bread House was opened for visitors. Today it houses the museum-reserve "Tsaritsyno", more precisely, its main expositions. In addition, there are exhibition and concert halls.

Park Tsaritsyno

This is a most valuable monument of park art. It began to form in the 16th century, at a time when the estate belonged to Prince Kantemir. It was a "regular garden", in which the precise geometry of the alleys and green plantations was traced.

During the reign of Catherine II , parks that mimicked the naturalness of nature became fashionable. They were called landscape. The creation of such a park was commissioned to deal with the English gardener Francis Reed.

The park in Tsaritsyno reached its peak at the end of the 19th century, when the structure of paths and avenues was formed, various structures appeared: empire-style pavilions, bridges, grottoes.

At the end of the 20th century, the park was in ruins. In 2006, the museum-park "Tsaritsyno" began to restore. Landscaping is not yet complete. But most of the park is restored.

Greenhouse economy

When visitors come to Tsaritsyno, the museum-estate, park, palaces make an indelible impression on them. This is evidenced by the reviews of numerous tourists.

The greenhouse economy arose on the territory of the estate even under Prince Kantemire. It was created near the cascade of ponds, which were later called greenhouses. In 1776, Bazhenov restored the old Kantemirov greenhouses, and then built a new one. It was made of stone. In 2006, during the archaeological excavations, its foundation was discovered.

In addition to numerous fruit trees, a myriad of flowers were grown here, preference was always given to roses. In the XIX century, the economy fell into decay. On the place of the greenhouses there was a holiday village.

In 2007, the buildings of the greenhouses were completely restored.

The Tsaritsyno Museum in Moscow is not only a unique historical and architectural monument, but also one of the most beautiful places in the capital.

Arbor "Temple of Ceres"

For a long time it was believed that this gazebo was built in the 1780s by Bazhenov. However, modern research suggests that this structure was erected in 1805 by I. Egotov. He replaced the dilapidated building of Bazhenov. As it looked in its original form, it is unknown, but, most likely, Enotov in some way repeated the creation of the great architect or used some elements of his project.

Rotunda has eight columns of an Ionic order. It is distinguished by its elegance, harmony and perfection of proportions. At first there was a statue of Ceres, the goddess of fertility, but it has not survived to this day. Today, its place was taken by the sculpture of A. Burganov. The arbor "Temple of Ceres" was restored quite often in the last century. The last time the work was done in 2007.

Singing fountain

This is a real gem in the ensemble of the park. He is in the middle pond. The fountain began to work since 2007. Every year from May, connoisseurs of beauty enjoy the harmony of color, music and light. The fountain miraculously turned the ancient park into an animated fairy tale.

All visitors to the manor are struck by the size of this structure. 807 water jets rise to a 15-meter height. They fall into a mirror-like surface of water with an area of 2500 m 2 . The fountain works accompanied by beautiful music. 73 pumps ensure the filling of its bowl with water.

In winter, the fountain does not work. It is closed with a special dome 13 meters high. It protects the structure from severe frosts and temperature changes.

Ponds

A cascade of ponds in "Tsaritsyno" was formed over two hundred years. The oldest of them is Borisovskiy, which appeared even during the reign of Boris Godunov. The Upper and Lower Ponds arose when the Streshnevs owned the estate. The lower pond was created in the middle of the XVII century. The middle pond appeared already in the 80s. Then was built a high dam, along which was laid Novozaritsynskoe highway, dividing the lower pond into two equal parts.
