How to drill a glass (tips for a home master)

Most people have faced such an action as drilling glass. But, taking this work, it should be taken into account that it is practically impossible to drill hardened material - it can not be drilled and as a result bursts. Therefore, you must know how to distinguish the quality of glass. The hardened material is always treated with edges, and it has defects and dents that are formed from the shafts in the furnace.

There are several ways to drill a glass. Let's consider the first of them. For this we need some tools: clay or tape; Drill or screwdriver, on which it is possible to regulate the rotation speed; water; Marker or marker. And also need a diamond-coated tubular drill, whose diameter will match the diameter of the desired hole. Here with these simple tools we will try to drill the glass.

In order to make a hole, we will draw the desired diameter with the marker, that is, we will circle the place where it is necessary to drill. With the help of plasticine on the contour of the marker we make a circle resembling a groove. Also, for the same purpose, you can apply a piece of wood, having previously made a hole in it with the same drill.

If you use the above material, it must be attached with a sticky tape to the glass. And in the deepening of the wooden naslepki should pour water. That is, the place where you need to drill, will be under water. Do not forget that the liquid must be necessarily cold. This is necessary in order to cool the cutting site so that the glass does not crack during drilling. The water becomes white. Since it is impossible to drill a glass without glass dust being formed during the work, it is it, mixing with the liquid, that gives the same white liquid shade.

Drill very carefully so as not to damage the glass. At the very beginning it is necessary to work at the maximum speed of rotation of the drill, because at low speeds it is possible to run out of material. Also, at a low rotation speed, it is possible to drill the drill bit to one side. But at high speeds this does not happen, and so working at this rate is much easier.

When the process remains very short, the speed of rotation of the diamond drill and the pressure on the glass should be reduced. If the impact is not weakened, a piece of material may fall out from the back side and thereby make the edge of the hole uneven. Also, you must not forget to constantly pour water into the pit of a naslepka. So that later on the glass does not form cracks, after the termination it is necessary to refine the cut.

And now the time has come to consider another well-known method of drilling a glass. This technique has been known since ancient times. For work we need materials such as lead or, possibly, tin, gas stove or burner, sand, metal mug, and alcohol. First you need to prepare a place where drilling without a drill will be made.

Do not be surprised, in the old days craftsmen knew how to "drill" the glass without a drill! With the advent of progress in our life, many extremely ingenious tricks of talented "lefties" were undeservedly forgotten. But today a new time has come : the period of excavation and promulgation of all secrets and secrets of folk crafts and skills of home masters.

When starting the process, you need to take alcohol and thoroughly degrease the surface to be drilled. Then on the prepared place we pour sand mixed with glue. Then, with a sharp object, we make a funnel that will correspond to the desired diameter of the hole. Then we take the melted lead or, possibly, the tin and pour it into the prepared well.

The preparation process is complete. Now you need to give time, about 3-5 minutes, so that this mass is frozen. After this remove the formed solder, as a result of this will get an absolutely smooth through hole.
