How to connect the printer

The printer has long been an indispensable attribute of any office. He also lives and works at home with the vast majority of users. Our review is intended for those who are involved in connecting the printer for the first time. After reading, you will know exactly how to connect the printer and how to configure it.

So, you have a computer and a box with a printer. Task: The printer needs to be connected to the computer and configured. When starting the task, we need to make sure that we have the necessary tools to solve it. What should be done:

  1. Make sure there is a cord that will connect the printer and computer. If it is missing - it must be purchased at any computer store. Do not bother with the names of cords and printers. It's enough for the seller to say that you need a USB cable for the printer - you will be perfectly understood everywhere.
  2. To install the printer, you will need an installation disc with drivers. Usually it comes with a printer. Make sure that you have it. If not - you need to go to the printer manufacturer's website, find your printer model and download the driver for it.
  3. Make sure that the computer has a CD-ROM drive and there is free space on the hard disk of the computer (Disk C).

How to connect the printer to the computer.

Option 1.

  • Plug the printer into an electrical outlet;
  • Connect a cord to the printer that will be used to communicate with the computer. You do not need to connect it to the computer yet;
  • Insert the installation disc (included with the printer) into the computer's drive;
  • After starting the disk, follow the prompts;
  • Installation and configuration will occur in automatic mode.

Option 2 (if there is no installation disk).

  • Download and save the printer driver to a folder on your computer's hard drive;
  • Plug the printer into an electrical outlet;
  • Install the printer driver on the computer. From the folder into which they were previously saved, run the file;
  • Connect the computer and printer with the appropriate cord;
  • The computer system will automatically find the printer. If done correctly, the printer is ready for use.

Option 3 - use the Found New Hardware Wizard.

  • Download and save the printer driver to a folder on your computer's hard drive;
  • Plug the printer into an electrical outlet;
  • Connect the computer and printer using the appropriate cord;
  • Go to the Start menu, then Printers and Faxes, then locate and click Add Printer;
  • Install using the Setup Wizard.

The main points of work with the "Setup Wizard":

  • Select the connection port (LPT1 or USB)
  • From the list choose the manufacturer and model of your printer;
  • If there is no device in the list, click "Install from Disk";
  • If the driver is on the hard disk - click "Browse" and specify the path to the folder with the drivers;
  • Assign a name to the printer;
  • To verify the functionality, put a dot near the "Yes" in the dialog "Print a test page?";
  • Click "Finish" to complete the settings;
  • If the test page was printed without rejection, clicking OK will close the window.

There is another question that we have not considered: it is a connection to a network printer. In our case, a network printer is a printer that is connected to a local network. There is a network of several computers and one printer with shared access. How to connect to it:

  1. Go to the "Start" menu, then select "Printers and Faxes";
  2. Select "Install Printer". Alternatively: in the "Printers and Faxes" window, select the free space. The right mouse button will bring up a menu in which you select "Install Printer";
  3. In the "Setup Wizard" that opens, click "Next" and then select "Network Printer" + "Next";
  4. Select "Printer Overview" + "Next";
  5. From the list, select the name of the printer that you share + "Next";
  6. To the question "Use by default", click "Yes" + "Next";
  7. Click "Finish" - this will complete the connection process.
  8. The system can request the installation of printer drivers - click "Yes" or "Install".
  9. Press "Done" - and now you have access to print. All your documents can be printed on this printer.
