How to connect a D-Link DIR-300 router. Firmware, configuration, testing

In this material, not only how to connect the D-Link DIR-300 router to the local network will be described step by step, but how to properly configure it. We will also provide a technique for checking both the wireless part of the computer network and its wired segment. All this will allow even a beginning computer specialist with the help of such a router to access the Internet from any personal computer or mobile device.

The advantages and disadvantages of this router model

The following points to the number of advantages can be attributed to such a network device as the D-Link DIR-300 router:

  • The firmware of the router functions stably and without problems.
  • Low cost (up to 2000 rubles).
  • Excellent functionality, which is more than enough to create any small computer network for home or office.
  • Sufficient equipment in order to immediately after the purchase it was possible to configure it and start immediately to use.
  • Easy to set up and use.
  • A high degree of reliability, which is inherent in any device with the D-Link logo.

But the disadvantages of this network device can be attributed only one point - the support of wireless standards for the transmission of information 802.11 versions of b and g. About more recent versions - n and ac - in this case there is no question. The network device itself was released a long time ago, and at the time of its launch, only 802.11g was relevant. As a result, the developers only limited this version.

Characteristics

This model boasts the following technical specifications:

  • 4 RJ-45 ports for creating a wired network segment (they are yellow in the perimeter and denoted as LAN X, where X is the port number from 1 to 4).
  • 1 input port to connect the input wire from the provider (on the edge it is painted in blue and signed as INTERNET).
  • 1 removable antenna with a gain of 5 dB.
  • The operating frequency is 2.4 GHz.
  • The maximum data transfer speed is 54 Mbps.
  • The supply voltage is 5 A, the current is 1.2A.
  • Power consumption - 4W.

Equipment

Before you connect the D-Link DIR-300 router and configure it, we'll figure it out with the bundled delivery of this network device. It includes the following:

  • The router itself.
  • User's manual.
  • Mounting system for installing the router on a wall or in an upright position on any horizontal surface.
  • Power supply with output parameters 5 V and 1.2 A.
  • Metro twisted pair with crimped connectors.
  • A CD with an electronic version of the documentation and the necessary application software.
  • Warranty card.

Installation location

The fixed installation site plays an important role in the quality of the coverage provided by the D-Link DIR-300 router. Reviews indicate that it should be as close to the center of the room as possible. It is not allowed to have various metal surfaces nearby, which will "extinguish" the signal. Also in place of the router there should be a stationary socket for the organization of power supply of the network device. Another important component in this case is the possibility of unimpeded installation of the input compressed twisted pair from the provider. It is based on the previously listed conditions, choose the location of the router in the office, apartment or house.

First connection and setup

The easiest way to set the software configuration parameters by the time scheme for any router. It is for this algorithm that we will describe in this material how to configure the D-Link DIR-300 router. Connection in this case is carried out according to the time scheme. The input cable from the provider is not needed at the configuration stage, and the router itself can be installed in any convenient place. That is next to the system unit of the PC or laptop and a free outlet. After installing the router we plug the power supply into the socket, and the wire from it to the corresponding socket of the network device. Complete set of twisted-pair meter at one end is installed in any free RJ-45 port of yellow color, and the second one in the socket of the network card of the PC.

Next, apply voltage to the router and wait for the end of its download (30-60 seconds). After that, run any browser available on the computer and in its address bar, type 192.168.0.1. In the next step, press Enter. Then, in the query window, you need to enter a user name and password. In this case, they are the same - admin. After filling the fields, click on the Log In button. In response, the router's basic configuration window opens. Then go to the menu item Internet Setup (located in the upper right corner). In the future, select the Wizard setting item. Then the software configuration consists of the following steps:

  • Specify the type of connection to the provider's equipment (PPPoE, DHCP, L2TP, PPTP or Static IP). This information is provided by the provider in the service contract. After setting the necessary checkbox, click on the "Next" button.
  • Specify connection parameters (user name, password, network address type, in case of static addressing method, enter the required values). This information is also provided by the provider. We fill only the indicated values, but do not touch the rest.
  • The next step is to enter the name of the wireless network and the password to connect to it.
  • For security reasons, we change the default password for accessing the parameters of the router and confirm it.
  • Then specify your time zone.
  • Save your changes.

Turn off the router and disassemble the timing.

Transfer to a permanent place

The next step is to move the router to a permanent location. Next, we'll figure out how to connect a WiFi-router D-Link DIR-300 on a permanent basis. The input wire from the provider is connected to the blue port, next to which is the inscription INTERNET. All network devices that will be connected via twisted pair are connected to the yellow ports using a wire previously connected to this location. The power supply is installed in a stationary socket, and the wire from it is connected to the socket of the router. Next, turn on the toggle switch on the back of the network device and wait for the end of its download. It takes from 30 seconds to 1 minute. After that, we proceed to verify the operation of the router.

Testing

After all the previously described it is necessary to check the correct operation of the network equipment. To do this, on any connected PC, you must start the browser and enter the address in its address bar, for example, google.com. Then press Enter. In response, the home page of the search giant should appear. If this does not happen, we go to the network connection settings in the PC and check their correctness. Everything must be configured so that the network address and the DNS computer are automatically received.

Now let's figure out how to connect a D-Link DIR-300 router and any mobile gadget (smartphone or tablet) using Wi-Fi technology. To do this, go to it in the "Settings" menu. Select "Wireless networks" and then Wi-Fi. Turn this transmitter on and start searching for all available wireless networks. Then choose the name that was set in the previous step. Then enter the password to connect to the wireless network. In the next step, close the configuration window and run any available browsers and similarly test the network's performance.

Results

This article describes not only how to connect a D-Link DIR-300 router to a computer network, but also how to configure it properly and test the transmission of information. The algorithm of its configuration is very simple, and it is capable of any user.
