How to apply mortar for plaster walls from foam blocks?

If you decide to repair, you will in any case face the need for a high-quality finish of your home. In the role of the same finishing material in the vast majority of cases is ordinary plaster. It is simple and cheap, and with proper work the result will be simply magnificent. However, even an experienced master from time to time may encounter in his work with certain difficulties. This is particularly true for walls made of foam blocks: a solution for plaster walls of this material has its own characteristics.

First, the surface of this kind of wall should be checked for the presence of a variety of chips and other mechanical defects. After a thorough cleaning of the surface, priming can be carried out. Evenly and accurately distributing the composition over the surface of the wall, wait until it dries, and at this time dilute the stucco mixture. But do not rely on light work, as the foam block is a very capricious material in this regard. And the composition of the mortar for the plastering of the walls must be made in accordance with all its requirements.

Take, for example, a brick. Brick wall without problems absorbs moisture, and does it evenly. As a result, a strong coupling is established between the wall material and the plaster itself. And what is the behavior of the foam block in this case? It absorbs moisture much better than a brick, but it's not in a hurry to give it away. As a result, there is no question of any uniform distribution of moisture. That is why the plastering of walls with a lime solution in the case of a foam block is completely unacceptable! The lime perfectly absorbs moisture, and after drying it simply falls off.

If you do not have a primer at hand, you can spray the wall with a liquid solution for plastering. The reliability and economy of this method have been tested for decades. The material can be applied only after the layer of solution has slightly dried. Thanks to such an uncomplicated reception, it is possible to ensure excellent adhesion of the finishing composition to the wall from the foam block. This effect is due to the fact that the moisture from the primer or its substitute is perfectly distributed over the wall surface. It is possible to dilute a solution for plastering walls with conventional mixtures for preliminary surface treatment.

Let's return to a simple primer mix. Are there any differences in the use of a primer and plaster solution? There are, and quite significant. First of all, acrylic primer is not suitable. Its disadvantage is that during its hardening, it dries out the surrounding surfaces. It is clear that for a whimsical foam block this is absolutely not suitable.

If you put acrylic plaster on the foam block , then it will not last long. Due to the need to retain moisture during the drying of the surface, the temperature should not exceed +27 degrees Celsius. In addition, such a solution for wall plastering is best dried in conditions of slightly increased humidity of the air, allocating more time for this.

In a word, the simplest method using a plaster solution should be considered justified from the economic point of view. In general, this is all the wisdom to improve the walls of the foam block is exhausted. If you approach the matter wisely, then there is nothing complicated in this, and the mortar for the plaster walls will last for years.
