Headphone repair in the home

We build a song and help live. Remember this saying? Headphones are now almost everyone, and it's scary to imagine how before people could do without this remarkable invention of mankind. It's a pity that this device is very short-lived for now. And this property equally applies to both cheap and expensive models. Sooner or later such a device starts to squeak, the sound periodically disappears, and soon nothing is heard anymore. However, this is not the reason to throw the device to listen to the dump - repair headphones Sennheiser, Koss and other popular brands can be done by yourself. As you now understand, it is simple and does not involve any complicated actions.

Preliminary diagnosis

Any repair of headphones begins with finding out the cause of the loss of sound. Usually problems start as a result of the following factors:

  1. Breakage of the membrane.
  2. Clogged channel.
  3. A wire break just before entering the left or right earpiece.
  4. Wire break at the plug.

We begin to repair the headphones with a thorough external examination and determine the signs of breakage. If in the track list there are often songs with a significant unbalance in the volume of the right and left channels, there is a crackle and noise, then we can conclude that, most likely, the reason is the damage to the membrane. At vacuum headphones it is separated from the auditory canal by a very thin metal mesh, and if it is clogged with earwax, it is visible to the naked eye. Well, when the sound disappeared altogether, this means that we will have to eliminate the wire break.

Diaphragm failure

At once we will tell, that in this case, most likely, it is necessary to buy new "ears". However, if there is a desire to purchase a premium-class device, but there is still not enough money, you can simply disassemble the case of the bunged headset and see what happened to the membrane. It can be scratched, wrinkled, contain foreign particles, etc. The mechanical alignment, cleaning and rinsing of the mesh, as a rule, solves this problem, but keep in mind that this part is very fragile and therefore should be extremely careful.

Channel clogging

Repair of headphones in this case is elementary simple - you need to rinse well with alcohol mesh, but disassembly of the body, whatever one may say, can not be avoided. The miniature devices are usually glued together, and therefore you need to pre-prepare a sharp knife and good lighting. Here, too, you need to act extremely carefully, otherwise you can not avoid breakage.

Wire breakage

This breakdown happens most often, which, incidentally, is not surprising. In order to find the place of the cliff, you need to take the plug for the headphones in the left hand, and the right twist around the wire at its base. If the sound does not appear, you should do the same thing at the headphone housing itself. When you can find a fracture site, you can start directly repairing the headphones. Remember, starting from the plug, three wires are in the cord: the right channel, the left channel and the common one. If there is an internal break in the middle of the wire, the repair is that the wire is cut just below the fracture and then the ends of the wires of the same color are soldered to each other. Isolate them separately from each other, and place the connection with the same tape to make as hard as possible. It's a little more difficult to repair the break at the plug: after all, it's up to you to disassemble the plug itself and get close to its internal metal contact. Try first to carefully remove the cap with a knife (it may still be useful when assembling), and if this does not work out, use a wire cutter. Remember, the common channel is at the widest part of the plug, where the rubber cap ends. But the left and right channel are selected by trial and error with the song included in the player. Before soldering, the plug is best clamped in the vice, but if they are not at hand, use pliers. The last step is ennobling, which consists in hiding bare wires and soldering points. To protect the wire from a possible breakage, you can glue a nylon thread to it , and for a decent appearance, use one or more heat-shrink tubing. However, here everything depends on your imagination.
