Halogen lamps - use in everyday life

Halogen lamps are the best modern lighting equipment. Their advantage is in economy and service life, which is much larger than that of simple lamps. Inside, they have a glass bulb containing a filament and a mixture of an inert gas with iodine or bromine.

Halogen lamps have many different shapes and colors. But basically they are divided into the following varieties:

  • Low-voltage - built-in type of transformer, directly connected to mains. It is necessary to check the power to prevent exceeding the permitted indicator specified in the instruction.
  • Universal - are switched on only through a transformer.
  • Network voltage - similar to the first kind.

Using the external transformer to switch on, it is necessary to take into account the power of the adapter, it must be above all in the total of the connected light bulbs. When using an underestimated minimum power on the transformer, it must be taken into account that in this case it is strictly forbidden to turn it on.

Differences

Determine which halogen lamps to use, it's easy. Knowing several installation rules and carefully reading the instructions for use, you can independently use them in everyday life. So, for example, the difference between lamps at 220 volts and 12 volts in the following:

  • A 12-volt lamp is used if the luminaire is made of flammable materials. In this case, it is necessary to install a transformer. To connect it is not difficult, you need to lay the cable from the power supply to the switch, where you need to hang it to zero, but not to the phase. Then we conduct to the transformer, where we necessarily connect all the lamps in parallel, so that they all turn on at the same time (low-voltage connection, in this case, the serial is excluded).
  • To connect the luminaire to 220 volts, you must also lay the cable from the power source to the switch, where you need to hang it to zero, but not to the phase, then take it to the light bulbs. In this case, a parallel connection method is used.

Types of fixtures

Halogen lamps in stores are presented in a wide range. They can also be used as facade lamps to decorate the outside of the house.

  • Spot lights provide a beautiful design of the premises, they can be located both in niches from plasterboard, and in the aluminum profile.
  • Built-in luminaires can be used in suspended ceilings. Their body can be made of various modern materials, and also in appearance to represent exclusive lamps.

Recommendations

Work with halogen lamps is only necessary in cotton gloves. Spots or some other minor contamination can affect the duration of their work. If you do not have cotton gloves at hand (sometimes halogen lamps have them in the kit), use a clean dry cloth. When choosing a transformer for these kinds of lamps, one should consider the possibility of using a dimmer and special protection against short circuits and overloads. It is installed all at a short distance (30 cm) to avoid overheating. Since halogen lamps are very fastidious in maintenance, it is best to purchase a device with a smooth descent, which at times increases the service life of these devices. It is important to know that when the voltage is increased by at least 20 V, their brightness is doubled, but the service life is shortened. If you apply sequential switching, when the voltage is reduced by 2 times, the brightness of the lamp will also be smaller, but the service life will increase several times. For daily lighting, you can use a serial connection or connect the device in series with the diode. When buying halogen lamps, Chinese variants should not be taken, since they are much smaller.
