Goiter endemic: geographical disease

Strangely enough, pathology of goiter endemic is inherent mainly to the inhabitants of mountainous areas, where there is a shortage of iodine in the surrounding space, including in drinking water. This anomaly provokes enlargement of the thyroid gland. To begin with, it is necessary to understand the dynamics of disease progression.

As you know, iodine is vital for the body, as it takes a direct part in the synthesis of thyroid hormones such as triiodothyronine and thyroxine. The constant shortage of iodine leads to dysfunction of the thyroid gland.

There is an interesting question, but where does the "shortage" of iodine in the body arise? Basically such an anomaly is observed in connection with its lack in the biosphere, as an option, in the surrounding nature and food. In addition to iodine deficiency, goiter endemic develops against other pathogenic factors. Among them are the following: penetration into the body of striogenic elements, inadequate absorption of iodine in the body, living in a polluted environment, periods of weakened immunity (pregnancy, consequences of the disease), certain chronic pathologies. Also, in some cases, there is a hereditary factor associated with a violation of iodine metabolism.

Extremely unpleasant disease goiter endemic, the symptoms of which bring a lot of discomfort and inconvenience. First of all, it should be noted that all signs depend on the shape and size of the goiter, as well as on the state of the thyroid gland. Zob endemic brings rather cosmetic inconveniences, rarely causes a kind of spiraling feeling in the neck, especially it is typical for women in the period before the menstruation.

The endemic goiter has three constructive forms, different in appearance and individual clinical approach. So, the diffuse form is characterized by a uniform increase in the gland, painless swallowing and palpation. With the nodular form, one or more nodes differ in size from each other, and their mobility and density are also different when probed.

It is important to understand that the long existence of a pathology such as endemic goiter may result in a decrease in the thyroid function or lead to other more serious disorders. So, during normal operation of the thyroid gland, the symptoms of the "goiter" heart often progress with further impairment of blood circulation and respiration. There may also be a hemorrhage in the goiter or its calcification. In a more advanced stage, goiter endemic can mutate into a malignant tumor.

If, through a detailed examination and after carrying out the necessary clinical studies, endemic goiter was diagnosed, treatment should begin immediately. In this case, the activities completely depend on the shape of the goiter, the functionality of the thyroid gland and the ongoing diseases. The body is supplied with iodine, but such courses must be intermittent, since an overdose of iodine entails extremely undesirable hyperthyroidism. If iodine therapy is ineffective, it is recommended to use hypothyroid hormones. Their appointment is also strictly individual and depends on the specific nature of the organism, the form of the disease and the presence of cardiac pathologies. If the goiter is endemic is very large, the patient is often offered a surgical intervention.

The conclusion can be made one: such a disease is better to provide in time than to tediously treat, while testing a lot of complexes. By the way, as a preventive measure, it is advisable to use iodized salt as food, which will help prevent fatal pathology.
