Geography: how Eurasia is located relative to other continents

The answer to the question of how Eurasia is located relative to other continents will inevitably include both a climate description and a description of the entire diversity of natural areas with which the named continent is so rich.

The largest continent

The uniqueness of the situation in Eurasia is due to the fact that no other continent can compare with it in size, the number of people living on its territory and biological diversity.

The name itself was assigned to this territory only in the late nineteenth century, when the location of Eurasia relative to other continents was finally clarified. Until then, it was called either simply Asia, or Asia-Europe. But after the publication of the fundamental work of Edward Suess, the term was finally fixed in the geographical dictionary.

For many centuries, researchers have studied the continent - its coastline and huge internal spaces.

Geological diversity

Being the largest continent on the planet, Eurasia is also the youngest continent in the geographical sense. This causes significant seismic activity, which generates a great variety of relief.

The way Eurasia is located relative to other continents is determined by the straits and mountain ranges separating its territory. On this continent are such important mountain ranges as the Alps, the Himalayas, the Caucasus, Tibet and the Pamirs, the Hindu Kush and the Urals. The border between the two parts of the world - Europe and Asia - passes through the Ural Mountains and the Caucasus.

Extreme points and neighboring continents

The geographic location of the continent of Eurasia can be determined from its extreme points. The situation of Eurasia in North America is easy to determine at the easternmost point of the continent, which is located on the territory of Russia. Cape Dezhnev is located on the border of the Arctic and Pacific and from Alaska, belonging to the United States, is separated by the Bering Strait, on the opposite shore of which lies Prince of Wales cape, which is the extreme point of North America.

The extreme continental point in the south of Eurasia is Cape Piai, located on the territory of Malaysia. Unlike the lifeless and deserted northern capes of Eurasia, Piai is a popular tourist destination. From comfortable restaurants located on its territory, vacationers can view the territory of Singapore, located on the opposite bank of the Johor Strait. At the very edge of the cape is a fifteen-meter beacon, giving a signal every three seconds, and along the coast grow mangrove thickets, so unique that a special international convention protecting their integrity was signed.

The extreme southern points determine the geographic location of Eurasia relative to Australia. One of them is considered to be the South Island, belonging to the Coconut Island group. Despite the fact that in the geological sense the islands belong to Eurasia, they are, nevertheless, ruled by Australia and are its outer territory.

How Eurasia is located relative to other continents: Africa

For a long time scientists could not decide on the line along which the border between Asia and Africa runs. The difficulties were due to the location of Eurasia in relation to other continents, most often determined by natural barriers, such as straits or mountain ranges. Between Eurasia and Africa such a boundary did not exist, and one desert imperceptibly flowed into another.

The situation radically changed in 1896, when the first ships passed through the Suez Canal from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean. Since then, the boundary between the two continents is the channel, which also connects the two seas.

Another border between Eurasia and Africa passes through the Strait of Gibraltar, which separates Europe from Morocco, located in the northeast of Africa.
