Functions of religion and its impact on the development of society

Since ancient times, there are several world religions that develop parallel to each other. They seem from the side of such unlike, but on closer examination, they can find much in common. They preach similar systems of values, call for correct and honest behavior. True, most ancient religious teachings unite the functions of religion into a single whole, which are very similar. Regardless of the country and the supreme deity in which people believe, they place equal hopes on their faith.

Some researchers call absolutely different functions of religion, so it is difficult to achieve the truth in such a delicate matter. Sometimes a real philosophical debate unfolds, when each of the researchers stubbornly defends his point of view. Only here the basic functions of religion, regardless of country and religion, most often coincide.

When a person is difficult, a heavy load hangs on the soul, he can choose two ways. The first way is to appeal to specialists, physicians and psychotherapists. An experienced specialist will quickly identify the cause of anxiety and discomfort, and then suggest possible options for getting out of a difficult situation. The second way is to go to church, where a person confesses. They speak frankly about their problems, their misdeeds, and analyze them. As a result, the person himself reveals a problem that does not give him rest. Together with the servant of the church, the problem is solved more quickly, and the believer is relieved. This is the power of the psychotherapeutic function of religion, which is present in all creeds.

Some people underestimate the possibilities of religion, but without it there would be no development of society. When the laws were in their infancy, religion helped people to keep order. Regulatory function is the ability to maintain order, protect society from chaos and violence. If the hand involuntarily stretched for someone else's purse, the person immediately pulled it off, as he remembered the high court. He was afraid that he would be punished not by people, but by some higher being, and for the crime they would have to pay for centuries. Thanks to this, the number of crimes was minimal, as people were worried about their future.

There is also a stimulating function that supports the development of society. A believer knows for sure that inaction and laziness are a sin, so he tries to work hard. The desire to receive eternal life helps to overcome any difficulties and adversities, and a person comes out of the most difficult situation with dignity. In his heart there will be no jealousy, lies or the desire to move up the ladder at the expense of others.

Today the role of this function of religion in society has weakened, as many prefer to live one day. In addition, people began to be confused in a single faith, religion and church. They do not understand that it is better to live by higher laws and rarely go to church than to harm others, observing all rituals.

A little apart is a mystical function that reflects the specific worldview of believers. They firmly believe that there is an earthly life and a higher life, which is considered more valuable. For the sake of good in the future, a person is able to give up convenience in earthly life. This world view helps to more tolerably endure any deprivation, which allows a person to survive in almost all conditions. Someone thinks this is a miracle, but someone is looking for a scientific justification, but the main thing is the result.

Whatever skeptics said today, but without religion, the development of society would be impossible. Education, many sciences leave the church, but this, unfortunately, is not remembered. Of course, some of the functions of religion are quite contradictory - and you can find their pitfalls in them. Just do not rush to reproach religion in anything, because our whole world is woven of contradictions.
