Ford Escort - Release History

Production Ford Escort began in nineteen sixty-seven. This car was developed on the basis of Anglia and became the most sold after the Ford T. It was remembered to all motorists with its original design of a radiator grille made in the form of a dog's bone.

The Ford Escort version of the first version included rear-wheel drive sedans with two or four doors. The equipment of models was produced by gasoline engines of Kent brand, with volumes of 1.1 and 1.3 liters. The engine power was from thirty-nine to forty-five, as well as from fifty-two to seventy-two horsepower. Within eight years, more than a million copies of Ford Escort cars were produced and sold. Such popularity was won by the participation in various sports races.

In the year nineteen seventy-six, the second generation Escort was presented by the manufacturers. A distinctive feature of the new models are the characteristic rectangular forms. The range of these cars was produced with different body variants. In this series, it was possible to purchase standard Estate and Salon, having 4 or 2 doors and four seats. In addition, there were complete sets of Sport, Ghia, as well as GL and L.

Cars of the second generation were equipped with a wide variety of engines with volumes of 1.1 and 1.3, as well as 1.6 and 2 liters. This version of Ford Escort models was produced within six years. In this period, almost two million of these machines were sold.

From the year one thousand nine hundred and eighty the production of the third generation Escort cars began. They had a transversely located engine and a front-wheel drive. This version was represented by a five-door hatchback, which had an angular design, fashionable at that time, and an original stepped form of the rear door.

Ford Escort wagon, with a capacious luggage compartment with a volume of up to 1200 liters, was introduced in the year one thousand nine hundred and eighty. A year later, on its base, the Pickup Escort III Express was created. The third version of the models of the car was equipped with gasoline and diesel engines having volumes in the range of 1.1-1.6 liters and having a capacity of fifty to ninety seven horsepower.

The result of the modernization of the Escort in 1986 was the appearance of the fourth generation of the model. The changes have affected the design of the salon, bonnet and bumpers, as well as a range of engines. The fourth version of the Escort began to be installed diesel, gasoline, injector and carburetor engines. From the very beginning of the year nineteen eighty-seven, all cars in this line were equipped with catalytic exhaust gas analyzers.

For two years, beginning in the year nineteen nineties, the fifth generation of Escort cars was produced. It had upgraded engines and an updated body design. Despite these changes, this version did not become popular among car owners. In this regard, the Escort was prone to restyling and began to be released in its new sixth version. The main changes have affected the body design.

The seventh generation of the Ford Escort, the testimonials of which showed a significant improvement in the appearance of the salon, had an expanded list of equipment. The car was equipped with airbags and power steering, as well as air conditioning. The bodywork became more rounded.

After mastering the new Ford Focus model, the production of the Escort began to decline gradually. The last car of this model came off the assembly line in September 2000.
