Burbot is a river fish from the cod gang, so it retained the basic cod habits, although it is considered the only representative of this family, preferring unsalted water. In appearance, this fish somewhat resembles a large catfish: flattened head, whiskers, fins throughout the body.

Fishing burbot, as a rule, begins when the water temperature drops below 12-13 degrees.

In summer, the fish hide in shallow pits, under driftwood or concrete slabs, where it can be caught with bare hands: after all, this predator in the heat, almost without eating, falls into hibernation and is activated after frosts.

In autumn, fishing on burbot is carried out mainly at night. Hungry for the summer, he scours the water, adhering, basically, deep waters, but gradually getting closer to the shore in search of food.

With autumn cold snap fishing significantly improves. The colder the water becomes, the more it feeds, and this fish is better caught.

Autumn hunting continues until the freeze-up. During this period in quiet and moonless nights catching burbot - very exciting, and most importantly, an effective occupation, especially if you use a simple donka.

Excellent nozzles are small brushes and minnows, but real snacks for this fish are loaches. Hard-boiled fishermen say that in large rivers they pour on donku and take rotten meat, which it does not do in lakes.

Despite the fact that this fish practically does not tolerate sunlight or the full moon, it is strangely attracted by the light from the fire or the beam of the lantern, which is often used by anglers. Poklev burbot peculiar: grasping the nozzle, it does not rush into the sides, but, standing still, it sucks it for a long time. Therefore, it is quite easy to dare this fish, even a large specimen.

Catching burbot in spring continues until the very opening of oak leaves or flowering cherry. The best months in the middle band are March-April, when the predator is fatting for hibernation in the summer.
