Biography: family and childhood

Marco Hietala was born on January 14, 1966 in the Finnish town of Tervo. He comes from a simple family. My father worked for many years as an English teacher at a local school. And her mother was a housewife. He has an older brother, whose name is Sakari (Zakhari).

In 1981, Marco moved from Tervo to a larger city - Kupio. There, the guy seriously engaged in the development of a musical career. To gain more knowledge in this area, Hietala Jr. entered the Conservatory, located near Helsinki. He learned to play the bass guitar.

Soon, the 18-year-old musician was invited to perform in the Purgatory group, which was later renamed Tarot. The guy agreed. Marco began to write music and lyrics. In the team he was respected and loved. In 1986, the group's debut album was released. Then the guys went on tour.

During one of the concerts of Tarot (in Siilinjärvi), our hero met with musicians from Nightwish. The guy has long watched the performances of these guys, considering their music cool.

Work in the Nightwish group

Marco Hietala was not going to leave Tarot. However, you can not argue with fate. In 2002 Nightwish was left by bass player Sami Vanskaya. The guys did not have to search for him for a long time. Tuomas Holopainen (team leader) remembered about a talented and confident guy. It's about Marco. As a result, he was invited to join the group. Our hero could not miss such a chance. He became not only a bass player, but also a vocalist.

The recording of the album Century Child was attended by Marco Hietala. He performed the songs in a duet with former vocalist Tarja Turunen. Marco's hoarse voice gave the band a new sound.

In 2007, Tarja left the band. Now the soloist Nightwish is Flor Jansen.

Other projects
