Fashion History: Gothic Style in Clothing

Nowadays, gothic style in clothes is associated exclusively with representatives of the same informal trend. But in reality this view is erroneous. The history of this direction begins in France XII - XIV centuries. At this time, there is a transition from broad hoodies to tight silhouettes.

For the first time, the Gothic style in clothes was manifested in knight armor. Heavy mail began to be replaced by a lighter, but no less solid ammunition of steel. Next began to change and the outfits of ordinary urban residents. Men's suits were shortened, and women's dresses began to be clearly divided into a skirt and a bodice. There were deep cuts in front and back, elongated sleeves with pointed cuffs. "Angularity" has got collars-racks, hats, boots with elongated noses. From the fabrics preference was given to velvet bright colors, only later the colors became much darker.

The male Gothic style in the Middle Ages clothes assumed the presence of two compulsory suits. One had a long and free cut, the second - short and narrow. The latter were especially popular with young people of those years. At the beginning of the XIV century, short purple jackets are fashionable. To learn them it was possible on sleeves, hanging down almost to a floor. Wore such a jacket, as a rule, with pants-stockings.

In the representatives of the nobility, the Gothic style in clothing is represented by a narrow kotardi caftan and bled jacket with wide floors. The cloak was a piece of cloth with a hole for the head, sleeveless and side seams. If it was made into the slots for hands or sewn sleeves, it was called surko.

The female Gothic style in clothes was characterized by kamiz and cotta outfits with a wide skirt and a tight top. The status of the lady in society was spoken by her train: the longer he was, the more notable was his owner. The main maiden headpiece is a cap with a slit on the parietal zone, resembling a curved tube of tissue.

A new round of development of the Gothic style of clothing was received at the end of the XX century. In the late seventies, rebelliousness of young men and girls gave way to a decadent mood. The first Goths were very similar to punks: colors, accessories, hairstyles. But everything began to change with the appearance on the music scene of the Neo-Gothic groups. The formation of a modern subculture was influenced by the phenomenon of sadomasochism. Hence the origin of leather outfits, spikes and other metal fittings.

The modern Gothic style has undergone some more changes. So there were corporate goths working in the office and keeping the business dress code. In addition to these, there are antique, Victorian, romantic, Renaissance goths, recreating images from historical eras. Cyber-goths are distinguished by the presence in the outfits of acid colors and the presence of technological design. Androgynous Goths try to hide their true sex behind makeup and clothing.

Far away from the classic look of glitter- and fairy-goths, which can only be girls. They repaint hair in uncharacteristic for this flow bright colors, make dreadlocks and braids braids. But, perhaps, the most rare phenomenon of this subculture are Western-Goths. The name speaks for itself: the outfits of these guys painfully resemble the clothes of cowboys, and favorite accessories are a wide-brimmed hat, revolver and whip.
