Expectorants for bronchitis

All expectorants for bronchitis can be divided into two large groups. The first group has an effect on the human body and on the cough reflex. Medicinal preparations, when ingested in the stomach and intestines, irritate the villi, are absorbed and flow with the blood stream through the body. When they get into the bronchi they increase the secretion of the bronchial glands. Sputum is diluted and lighter. This mainly includes herbal medicines: thermopsis, mother and stepmother, thyme, marshmallows, which are part of the puerperium. They should be taken often in a small dose during the day, because they have a short action.

Expectorants for bronchitis are prescribed in the acute period of the disease and with a prophylactic goal during remission.

The second group of drugs directly affects sputum and bronchi, without affecting the entire body. These are drugs such as Lazolvan, Bromhexin, Ambrobene, which make sputum less viscous, or drinking soda, potassium iodine, which stimulates the secretory function of the bronchi.

Drugs combined action Bronholitin and Doctor MOM, Erespal, which reduces the amount of formation and secretion of mucus, relieve the inflammatory process and, at the same time, expand the bronchi.

Expectorants for bronchitis can not be used simultaneously with drugs that suppress cough, so that sputum stagnation does not occur and there is no blockage of the bronchi. At the onset of the disease, you should immediately consult a doctor to properly treat. If time is lost, the disease will go into a chronic form, and then more intensive treatment with powerful drugs will be required.

In healthy people, a small amount of mucus in the bronchi normally forms, which helps to remove the dust, dead cells, and microorganisms that get trapped in breathing. Cilia, located on the mucous membrane, move them away from the respiratory tract.

During inflammation of mucus much more is formed, it becomes viscous and closes the lumen of small bronchioles, causes bronchial obstruction. Glued cilia cease to perform a protective function, and the disease develops.

Some expectorant drugs change the sputum, others restore the function of the bronchi. Eucalyptus and anise oil is used in the form of inhalation for easier sputum discharge. Bromhexine mucus makes less viscous, so when you cough, a person feels relieved. This drug can be prescribed for 3-5 days at most. Ambrobe and Lazolvan prevent the adhesion of villi, which allows rapid removal of sputum.

To small children and adults at the very beginning of the disease, when disturbing a dry cough, it is better to use an alkaline drink, a broth of dogrose, berry fruit and jelly. But do not use expectorants to not increase inflammation and not aggravate the course of the disease. And only with the appearance of sputum can begin to use expectorants for bronchitis.

Pregnant women can drink decoctions of thyme, thermopsis, but should avoid taking Bromhexine and Iodide potassium. For smokers a good effect is given by Ledum, thyme, oregano in the form of inhalations. The root of the althaea or elecampane perfectly removes the inflammation, but in the acute period it is not recommended to take them.

A pine bud, on the contrary, is prescribed for acute bronchitis, tracheitis, when the sputum is dense and in large quantities. These drugs are used as a thinning phlegm and expectorant. Thymus is effective for dry cough, helps to remove lean sputum and cleanse the bronchi.

Of folk remedies at home as a means for expectoration, you can prepare a potion of onions, bananas, honey and sugar. To do this, take two bananas and rub through a sieve. Boil the syrup from a glass of water and 3 tbsp. L of sugar. All mix, cool and take after eating. Half-pound onions and sugar toss in a pan with 1 liter of water, simmer for three hours. Then add 50 g of honey, mix well.

Radish juice with honey and cabbage juice facilitate the patient's condition when coughing. Such household drugs must be prepared in small quantities and immediately used.
