Excavations of German dugouts supplement the picture of sad events

Almost 68 years have passed since the end of the Great Patriotic War, but archaeologists now and then find evidence of what was happening at the time of sad events. Excavations of German dugouts, trenches and other engineering obstacles still show interesting findings to the world.

The vast territory on which the military events took place extends thousands of kilometers. "Black", "white" and "gray" rangers try to find valuable historical evidence of the domestic and army way of both the Soviet troops and the enemy troops.

Excavations near the village of Kamenskoye

The most interesting for the public are well-preserved objects of daily life and leisure of soldiers, their firearms and uniforms. Thus, excavations of German dugouts in the area of Kamenskoye Village (Tula Region) brought several valuable exhibits to the district museum. On the territory of this settlement there was a strip of offensive of the 113th and 338th rifle battalions of the enemy. The search group "Patriot", which excavated near the artillery positions, found a lot of firearms and several guns.

Executing the excavation of German dug-outs of military archaeologists also expected a small surprise: a small glass bottle of Hennessy cognac was found at a shallow depth. Despite the long time in the earth, no damage was found on the vessel, and its contents were perfectly preserved. Found in the same gas mask, helmet, a tape of shells from stainless steel and many other fragments of uniforms and equipment took a worthy place in the exposition of the museum.

Polygraphic values

Ironically, in many places that used to terrify the Soviet population during the war years, museums are now located. An example of such a "regrouping" is the former Nazi Gestapo in Novgorod. Now here is the Museum of the Great Patriotic War. It is divided by a passage on two flanks, each of which shows visitors evidence either Soviet (on the left side) or German (on the right side) uniforms, life and equipment.

Recent excavations of German dugouts near the city gave the museum new valuable exhibits. Archaeologists have discovered the remains of polygraphic material belonging to the enemy's army. Now charred sheets with German reports, orders and lists found their shelter within the walls of the building. Under the onslaught of the army of General Vlasov, German divisions hastily left their positions and set fire to the military documentation. However, due to the lack of oxygen, the thick binder sheets were not burned, they were only charred. It was in this state that the rangers of the Guard detachment found them. The total amount of material found amazes: about 1,500 sheets of personal letters, military documents, newspapers and photographs - this discovery can be made only a few times in the history of excavation.

Military archeology in Belarus

Active archaeological work is also carried out on the territory of the Republic of Belarus. In April 2012, in the village of Malye Kozlovichi (Zhlobin district), excavations of dugouts were successfully carried out. During the conduct of military operations on the territory of this locality there was a line of defense. Determine who exactly owned the engineering barriers, it is difficult: dugouts now and then moved from the side of the Soviet troops into the hands of the enemy. On the territory of the artillery structures, a large number of firearms were found, half of which belonged to workers' combat units.

Now more and more people are trying to get to the excavation of German dugouts. Photo and video of the ongoing process is spread on the Internet not only by the official groups of pathfinders, but also by their "black" colleagues. The latter is motivated by the thirst for quick profit, because implements and everyday war items are highly valued in the "black" market.
