Embargo on the import of products in the Russian Federation. What products have been banned from importing into Russia: list

The embargo is a sanction that some countries apply to that state that has violated international rights. What is an embargo on products? This means the cessation of the supply of certain goods and trade in general. If an embargo has been applied to the country, it involves the detention of ships with goods and the prohibition of entering into ports of states that have made this prohibition valid.

What is an embargo on products?

The embargo is a prohibition. This means that the goods of those countries that have applied sanctions to Russia can not be imported into the country. This applies to agricultural products, raw materials and food. The embargo on the importation of food products into the Russian Federation was introduced on August 6, 2014 by President V.Putin.

Countries subject to the embargo

The countries of the European Union, the USA, Australia, Norway and Canada were affected by the import ban. But since the EU is almost independent of Russia's exports (less than 1%), the economy has not suffered serious losses. Also , the EU countries intend to pay a certain amount of money to those states that have suffered from the embargo. The money that will be used for this will be taken from the fund to help victims of political persecution.

The action of sanctions caused the least damage to Luxembourg. A huge damage suffered Lithuania, Poland, Estonia and Finland. In general, the countries of the European Union reacted differently to the ban. Someone's economy has suffered more, and someone's less.

Grocery list

The list of products banned from importation into the Russian Federation included meat of cattle (in any form), pork (in any form), food by-products of poultry, various kinds of fish, aquatic invertebrates. And also dairy, sausage and cheese products, vegetables, fruits and nuts.

Recently, a supplemented list of products was added, which replaced the old one. It has several differences. For example, the requirements for lactose-free products have become stiffer. If earlier imported milk or lactose-free products were allowed, now it is possible to import only the list that is intended for dietary treatment or prevention.

In connection with the embargo, the list of products now under the ban is roughly the same: meat, food by-products, crustaceans, milk and dairy products, various vegetables, fruits. Also, the ban on the export of edible roots and tubers was not canceled.

Products not affected by the ban

Some names are not limited in supply in the Russian Federation: baby food, specialized lactose-free milk, biological supplements, protein concentrates, vitamin and mineral complexes. Russia has allowed to import vegetables that are intended for sowing: potatoes, corn, onions and peas.

Also, confectionery and flowers were not included in the restricted list.

Economic consequences for Russia

In addition, the assortment of some types of products was reduced, the import ban also brought some undesirable changes in the economic sphere. The embargo on the import of products in the Russian Federation in combination with other factors had negative consequences for the economy. Only for half of this year, salaries fell by 8.5%, and the consolidated price of food for one month, on the contrary, increased by more than 14%. You can see that people began to save on purchases, especially on food.

Enterprises that specialize in the supply of food have also suffered from the embargo on food. They began to produce new products from not very high-quality ingredients, but cheap, and the price for such products also became smaller. Some firms also reduce the quality of packaging, changing the packaging to cheaper.

Changes in the range of products

In order to replace all prohibited products with a new product, it takes from three to four years. Some grocery stores, despite the prohibited import of food to Russia, are smuggled. They deliver goods through Kazakhstan or Belarus.

In connection with the embargo on the import of products in the Russian Federation, there are problems with the amount of nutrition needed to treat patients with lactose insufficiency. There may be problems with the number of products for diabetics and allergies, as well as with sports nutrition - such goods simply are not enough.

Prices for some products rose very strongly, for example, buckwheat became more expensive in half. The price of eggs, sugar, fish, tea, flour products and sunflower oil was also raised.

Extension of the embargo

In response to the continuation of sanctions by the EU countries, the Russian Federation will also extend the term of the embargo on the import of food. The renewal term has already become known - for one year.

Also in the country conducted a survey among the population about how people relate to the extension of the embargo and how this ban changed their lives.

According to the survey, more than 80% of Russians support the idea of extending the term of the embargo on the import of products to Russia from the EU and the US.

People believe that the import ban affected the state of the economy positively. Also half of the respondents said that they did not notice any changes.

There was a statement that sanctions against Russia were illegal. They also said that Russia will act on the principle of reciprocity. If sanctions are lifted, the country will also lift the embargo.

The reaction of countries that have not been banned

Countries that have not been embroiled with Russia's embargo on food have received huge benefits. For example, for Serbia it is a chance to raise the level of its economy by supplying its own products to the territory of the Russian Federation. They will deliver quality products in a huge assortment. Macedonia already exports fruits and vegetables to the country. Belarus is prepared to help Russia: it will not allow the EU countries to supply products through its territory. It also delivers to us mussels, coconuts and octopuses.

Brazil actively delivers beef and chicken meat. Turkey is one of the largest suppliers to Russia. And this country, in addition to fruit and vegetable products, signed a contract for the supply of milk and honey.

Chile exports seafood to Russia, and it is also the largest supplier of fish. Mauritius and Ecuador are going to become suppliers of fish in Russia. South Africa delivers a huge number of different fruits.

Egypt, in addition to being going to join the Customs Union, also promises to become a supplier of various products.

Some countries have benefited enormously from the ban on the import of goods from a number of countries to Russia, because in this way they decided on raising their profits. And if the profit is huge, it will give an opportunity to raise the country's economy to a higher level. In addition, domestic producers have the opportunity to prove that our goods are no worse than European ones.
