Eduard Starkov: photo, biography

Edward Starkov is a rock musician and poet. To many of us he is known for his performances in the "Chimera" group. Do you want to know the history of her life and the cause of her death? Then we recommend you read the article from the first to the last paragraph.

Biography: family and childhood

Starkov Eduard Sergeevich was born on July 8, 1969 in the village of Kalevala, which is in the Republic of Karelia. Mother of our hero was engaged in housekeeping and education of two sons - Edik (elder) and Misha (younger).

My father was a military man. Therefore, the family often had to move from one settlement to another. Starkovs went to the Murmansk region, then returned to Karelia.

Our hero grew up an active and inquisitive child. He quickly found a common language with other guys. Edik learned to read and write early. He also showed interest in music. Noticing this, the parents decided to help the son in developing creative abilities. They wrote it to a music school. For several years, Edik learned to play the accordion. That's not all. The boy himself mastered the guitar.

Life in Vyborg

In 1982, the Starkov family finally settled in the Leningrad Region. They purchased housing in the city of Vyborg. There our hero graduated from high school. Then the guy went to Kronstadt. He enrolled in the 42 nd seaworthy school of the Navy. Soon he was awarded a diploma about the end of this educational institution. Edward was sent to Vladivostok to practice. But there he did not stay long. The guy was drafted into the army.

Soldier

Edward Starkov went to serve in Petrozavodsk, in the border troops. While in the army, the guy wrote most of the early acoustic songs. Some of them were later included in the repertoire of his group.

On the "citizen" our hero returned a mature and self-confident young man. He came to his native Vyborg. Edward was not going to sit around his parents' neck . Almost immediately, Starkov got a job. To begin with, he mastered the profession of a stoker at the local POGAT. In his spare time, the guy continued to compose songs. At that time Edik created such compositions as "Ferapont" and "Love of the stoker". The first listeners were his parents.

At some point the guy decided to go to Leningrad. In this city he had more chances to build a musical career. In the northern capital Edik met with Gennady Bachinsky and other members of the student group "Krokoplyukh." The children liked the songs written by him.

In late 1990, the group left the soloist, nicknamed Plyukh. After that, the collective finally disintegrated.

Edward Starkov (photo above) together with musicians from "Krokoplyukha" created a new group "Deputy of the Baltic". He acted as a vocalist and rhythm guitarist. Friends gave Edward an unusual nickname - Redt.

The guys rehearsed in the hostel LETI. The first public appearance of the new band took place in December 1990 in one of the Leningrad rock clubs. The group "Deputy of the Baltic" has gained popularity among local youth. The musicians performed in various clubs. The staff managed to record several albums.

In October 1991, in the newly opened music club "Tam-tam" a concert "Deputy of the Baltic" was held. Soon this institution turned into a cult place for the Petersburg underground.

In late 1991, Gena Bachinsky became a team manager. The group gets a new name - "Chimera". However, its composition remains unchanged. It is worth noting that the new name was invented by Starkov.

In 1992, the Chimaera decided to update its sound. In the group there was one guitar, on which Edward played. The sound of the band was heavier, it added more dynamics and drive. The band did not abandon the cello.

Continuation of career

The music played by the "Chimera" could not be attributed to a specific direction. In European clubs, this style is called nothing else than Cello-punk ("cello punk").

Edward Starkov, whose biography we are considering, changed his image dramatically. He shortly had his hair cut, covered the body with tattoos. The musician appeared on stage barefoot and in a blacksmith apron. For many people, its appearance seemed strange. And fans of the Chimera were delighted with the soloist.

For several years, the group performed in St. Petersburg clubs and major concert venues. Twice "Chimera" went on tour in Europe. In Switzerland and Germany, Russian rock musicians made a splash.

Personal life

Like many of us, Edward had his first love, timid confessions and the first kiss. Our hero throughout his life carried the memory of the girl to whom he experienced feelings in his youth.

With his future wife, Svetlana Lillo (Tosei), Starkov met in the Northern capital. They lived together for several years, wandering around the rented apartments and friends' apartments. They had no children.

  • In his native for Eduard Vyborg, the group "Chimera" performed only once.
  • Our hero read a lot. His favorite Russian author was Elena Blavatsky. And from foreign writers, he singled out Philip Dick, who created the work "Ubik."

Cause of death

On February 23, 1997, this world was left by a talented performer and poet. Edward Starkov hanged himself. Only after 10 days of his lifeless body was found in the attic of a house located on the street. Bakunin. Immediately there were a lot of rumors about the reason for his suicide. Some people were sure that he was suffering from drug addiction. Other citizens explained his deed with a prolonged depression. But what prompted the 27-year-old guy to commit suicide? Now it's impossible to know.

Specialists in criminology studied poems and songs written by Starkov. In some of them, suicidal motives were clearly traced. In one of the interviews with the print edition, the musician stated that he would like to hang himself right on the stage. He considered this a bright and unusual ending of the concert. Nobody thought that Edward Starkov really decided on suicide. Only not on stage, but at home.

The last concert of the group "Chimera" was a week before the death of our hero. February 15, 1997 in the club "Milk" was not pushed. Numerous fans came to listen to your favorite rock musicians. The next concert was scheduled for March 8th. Participants of the team arrived on time in time. Only Edward was not enough. After a while musicians began to worry. After all, Starkov was never late. They could not even imagine that their colleagues were no longer alive.

A well-known rock musician is buried on Verkhne-Cherkassovsky cemetery, which is near to Vyborg. Today a black cross with a photograph is mounted on his grave. Friends, relatives, devoted fans and colleagues do not forget Edward. They take care of the grave, bring fresh flowers.
