Dzharylgach Island (Kherson region): rest, reviews of tourists how to get

The pearl of the south of Ukraine by right can be called Dzharylgach - the largest island in the Black Sea. Officially it is uninhabited, however, rich nature, unique climate, snow-white sandy beaches and a calm warm sea during the holiday season attract thousands of tourists.

History

Archaeological finds found on the island indicate that its territory was inhabited as early as the Neolithic and Bronze Age. Jarylgach Island is mentioned in many works of ancient authors, such as, for example, Ptolemy and Herodotus, and the myth of the origin of the Jarylgachsky spit, which connects the island with the coast, dates back to the Trojan War. There is also the assumption that the island, where Odysseus and his warriors were captured by a one-eyed Cyclops, is Jarylgach. This is evidenced by the texts of Homer, which describes a deserted Goat Island, located near the coast and covered with dense forest, where many wild goats are found. In the northern part of the Black Sea, where, as is known, these events took place, there is no other such island. As for the forest, which is not on the island now, in translation from Turkic "dzharylgach" means scorched forest or burnt trees. There is also a version that the island became the prototype of Buyan, described by A. Pushkin in the famous poem.

Geographical features

Jarylgach Island - Kherson region of Ukraine. It is located near the north-western coast of the Black Sea, eight kilometers from the city of Skadovsk, belongs to the Skadovsky district. The coasts of the island are washed by the Dzharylgachsky and Karkinitsky bays.

Nature

Thanks to the fact that, since 1923, the island Dzharylgach was in the reserve "Askania Nova", and since 1927 became part of the Primorsky reserve, it managed to preserve an amazing, almost untouched nature. Today, here is a national nature park, created to preserve the historical, cultural and natural values of the northern coast.

Despite the fact that almost the entire territory of the island is a steppe, its plant world is very rich. There are about 500 plant species, 50 of which are endemic, that is, they are found only in a limited area. Among them there are 7 species from the family of orchids.

Climate

The climatic conditions on the island are perfect for families with children. In winter, the temperature does not fall below -2 0 C, and in summer it does not exceed + 25 + 28 0 C. The humidity of the air, considering the marine environment, is quite high, however the cool air currents coming in the warm season from the continent do not allow the climate to be too hot . Rains here are rare, the average amount of precipitation per year does not exceed 400 mm. The sea air is saturated with iodine compounds released by seaweed, as well as ozone and oxygen. Mixed with the smells of local herbs, it creates an inexpressible memorable aroma.

Sea

One of the features of the island is its versatility in terms of recreation. The bay separating the island of Dzharylgach from the coast is shallow, which allows the water to warm up during the hottest days to 30 ° C. Thanks to sunlight and shallow depths , seaweed form whole underwater meadows at the bottom, attracting numerous marine inhabitants in the form of fish and mollusks. There are never big waves on this side of the island. Long sandy beaches of large white sand and a shallow depth make swimming in the sea as safe as possible, so this area is the best place to relax with children. Photo of the island of Dzharylgach, with its azure calm sea and snow-white sand on endless beaches, made in good sunny weather, resemble images of beaches in Thailand. On the opposite side of the island is washed by cool waters, which bring underwater currents. The sea here is more deep and troubled, which attracts fans of surfing, diving, fishing and other entertainment.

Rest on the island Dzharylgach

On the island itself there are no tourist bases, sanatoriums and private boarding houses, but in summer there are enough tourists here. They come from the coast to sunbathe on the deserted beaches, admire the beauty of the Dzharylgachsky Bay, see animals in their natural environment or just relax in the bosom of almost wildlife. Some are located for a long time, setting tents right on the beach. This place attracted and continues to attract nudists from the countries of the former USSR. They have their own beaches, traditions and rules. Knowledgeable people come here to improve themselves with the help of therapeutic mud, which they themselves extract near salty lakes.

Those who decided to relax on the island savage, it should be borne in mind that of the "amenities" there is only one source of fresh water, a fire without firewood brought with them also fails due to the lack of trees, and hordes of mosquitoes after sunset will not let you enjoy the sunset . The only attraction of the island, excluding the sea, beaches, flora and fauna, is the old lighthouse, established on the east coast of the island in 1902 with the money of S. Skadovsky. It is known that the beacon was designed in France by one of Eifel's pupils and brought here in disassembled form. What is surprising is that it looks like the famous Eiffel Tower. Not far from the old lighthouse is a new one, installed in 1997. Some tourists who come to the island, spend the night in a new lighthouse.
