Diet with diabetes mellitus

In our time, diabetes is a fairly common disease in which the carbohydrate metabolism in the body is disturbed. The main causes of its occurrence can be called unbalanced nutrition, frequent consumption of fatty foods, overeating and heredity. In such patients, incomplete digestion of carbohydrates occurs, as a result, there is a surplus of sugar in the blood. Fortunately, this disease can be controlled and a special diet for diabetes helps keep the body in balance.

It is worth noting that the main burden of responsibility for the treatment and prevention of diabetes mellitus lies on the patient himself, since he can provide himself with proper nutrition and the correct regime of the day. The doctor can only help to identify the disease with the help of tests and make the necessary diet.

The diet in diabetes mellitus is slightly different from the usual diet for weight loss, as it is aimed at setting a clear diet (4-5 times a day and in small portions) and controlling the consumed carbohydrates. There are two types of carbohydrates: digestible and non-digestible. The former must be strictly controlled, and in some cases, completely eliminated. Caloric content of foods should be low, especially if the patient suffers from excessive weight, but the amount of vitamins should be high-grade.

Consider what products are considered useful in diabetes mellitus and which are forbidden.

Let's start with the refusal. Prohibited foods in diabetes are foods that contain a large amount of sugar, which is quickly absorbed into the blood, provoking diabetes. These include: sugar, grapes, raisins, sweets, jam. There are also sugar substitutes (xylitol, sorbitol, saccharin), but it is not recommended to take them alone, only after the doctor's permission or appointment. Strictly control fried, spicy, salty and smoked food, alcoholic beverages and preserves. Absolutely contraindicated also products that simultaneously contain a large amount of fats and carbohydrates (ice cream, cakes, chocolate). But a complete rejection of fat is not recommended, since they favorably affect the insular apparatus, and use in the amount of 90-100 g per day. It is desirable to use vegetable fats, but you can also have some animal origin.

Diabetes diet includes a large number of useful and tasty foods that can easily replace harmful sugar. The main source of "slow carbohydrates" are vegetables. They have low energy value and a sufficient amount of sugar. It is useful to use white cabbage and cauliflower, zucchini, blue, fresh cucumbers. Also onions, parsley and dill give a stunning taste and decorate dishes.

In some cases, it is allowed to use fructose and honey as an additional source of sugar, but before that it is better to consult with your doctor.

When using bread, it is better to choose the one that contains the minimum amount of carbohydrates.

Fruits and berries (apples, black currant), herbs, vegetables, broth of wild rose and natural juices will help to supply the body with the necessary vitamins. But the doctor can also introduce additional vitamins (retinol, folic acid, potassium, calcium, zinc, magnesium, etc.).

Such products as lean beef, soaked herring and cottage cheese compensate for the shortage of proteins. The amount of liquid consumed is not limited, so as not to lead to dehydration of the body.

As you can see, the diet for diabetes is quite diverse and tasty. With the right combination of products, you can not only avoid this disease, but also keep yourself in good shape. Do not despair and take care. Remember, your health depends only on you!
