Derek Roy: career of the famous Canadian hockey player

Derek Roy is a notorious person in the field of sports and, in particular, hockey. He was born in Canada (Ontario province) in 1983, on May 4. And at the moment it protects the colors of the Omsk "Vanguard", where he moved this year.

early years

Derek Roy started at the Kitchener Rangers. He came in the season 1999/2000. There he stayed until 2003. In the first season, the Canadian showed himself perfectly: he managed to score 87 points. Due to this, he received the title of "Beginner of the Year OHL".

In his second season, Roy also showed excellent results: 81 points and 42 goals scored! In the following year, 2001, he was elected to the NHL Draft by representatives of the Buffalo Sabers club. For him, he played in the fall of 2002, but only in the preseason meetings. Then, despite the fact that the Canadian showed excellent results, he was returned to his native "Rangers". And he helped the team win the Memorial Cup in 2003.

Then the boy turned 18, and he became part of the farm club "Buffalo Sabers". For the first season, spent in the NHL, he managed to score 19 points (given that he went to the ice 49 times).

Further successes

After playing the season for "Buffalo", Derek Roy moved to "Rochester American." Not because he so wanted. Just after the training camp was over, it turned out that the young central striker was not ready to defend the colors of the Sabers. However, in "Rochester" he showed great success, and for 8 games earned 20 points. Representatives of the Buffalo Sabers again invited him. And the Canadian ended the season with two hat-tricks. The first in my life, by the way.

In the next season, Derek Roy, photo of which was provided above, sent the fastest puck to Ottawa. It was only 9 seconds after the starting whistle! It was a real event for him and the team. Not surprisingly, in the offseason, "Buffalo" offered a hockey player a 6-year contract and 24 million dollars. And Derek justified himself: in the first season after the conclusion of the contract, he became the team's top scorer, earning 81 points. Of these, 49 were credited for assists, and 32 - for abandoned washers.

However, in 2010/11 he suffered a heavy operation on his hand, because of what he missed a lot of playing time. And in 2012, "Buffalo" exchanged it for the other two players, sending the striker to "Dallas Stars". A year later, the Texas club sent Derek to the Vancouver Canucks. After which he moved to the St. Louis Blues, where he played one season and moved to Nashville Predators, and then to Edmonton Oilers. Then he spent a year in the Swiss Bern. And now he defends the honor of the Russian "Vanguard", with which the contract was signed for one year.

Other facts

Derek Roy is a hockey player who is not only a club player. He also defended the colors of his national team. In 2003, for example, he took part in the World Youth Championship. The Canadian team then won "silver", and Roy scored 10 points for the tournament.

Then he went to international competitions in 2008. Then Roy designed a hat-trick, sent to the gate of the Norwegian rivals. True, in the final the team lost to Russia. And in the following year, 2009, history repeated itself.

But it's worth noting that Roy is a sponsor of the junior ice hockey team called Clarence Castors from his native province of Ontario.
