Colposcopy is a procedure during which the surface of the vulva, the vagina and parts of the uterine neck are inspected. Diagnosis is carried out using a special tool. This device is called a colposcope. This tool is a low-power microscope, allowing you to magnify from two and a half to forty times. At the end of the device a bright light allows the doctor to clearly see the cervix.

If the diagnosis shows unusual cell areas, then during the inspection it is possible to take a tissue sample for further laboratory testing. Colposcopy is a procedure in which you can identify the lesion and assess the overall condition of the vaginal mucosa, the uterine neck, the vascular pattern, the color of the tissues. Diagnosis allows us to identify violations of the epithelium, the boundaries of detected neoplasms, the presence and shape of glands.

Colposcopy of the cervix of the uterus may be recommended in the event that a gynecological examination reveals certain disorders. These include, in particular, the presence of suspicious areas on the surface of the uterine neck or dysplasia. Colposcopy is a procedure that is performed to detect cancer in the neck and changes that provoke its development. This type of diagnosis can be recommended in the event that after a sexual encounter there is a bleeding from the vagina.

Colposcopy is a diagnostic method that does not require special preparation. However, the expert can give some recommendations. In particular, immediately before the examination you should empty the intestine and bladder. It is recommended to exclude proximity two days before the examination. Do not plan the procedure during menstruation, use tampons. Douching for a day or two before the examination is not recommended, and hygiene procedures should not be performed immediately before the examination.

Colposcopy is a procedure that is indicated for the detection of precancerous changes in the vulva, vulvar cancer, vaginal neoplasms, changes in the tissues of the vagina and the uterine neck. The examination is also used in the presence of HPV or genital warts.

Colposcopy is a procedure that is administered on an outpatient basis. It takes, as a rule, ten to twenty minutes. The patient occupies the same position on the armchair as on the gynecological examination. After the diagnosis is completed, a colposcopy protocol is compiled.

After this, the area under investigation is treated with acetic acid solution (3%). Under the influence of the compound, the painful areas become white and easily discernible.

After this, the Schiller test is carried out. Wetted in an aqueous solution of iodine, the tampon is inserted into the vagina and the surface of the neck is smeared, and then examined again at different angles into the colposcope.
