Classics of cinema: "Groundhog Day"

The film "Groundhog Day", directed by Harold Ramis, appeared on screen screens of the whole world in 1993. The picture was warmly received by critics and spectators, and over the past 20 years it has become, without a doubt, a cult. Actors (in the title role - inimitable Bill Murray) and an exciting story in which a deeply dramatic story is skillfully supplemented with a really funny humor - the main reasons for the success of the film.

In the small town of Punxsutawny, Pennsylvania, Groundhog Day is celebrated every year. Phil Connors is a commentator on television, and every time he comes to the city to cover the events of the holiday. He also did this year. Phil is not a very cheerful person at all, but this day his mood was especially bad. Everything is not asked from the very beginning, and the culmination of events is a storm, because of which the crew can not get out of the city.

When Phil wakes up the next morning, he does not yet know that today is again February 2, and during the day all the same events will begin to happen, as yesterday. So it will be tomorrow and the day after tomorrow, and it seems that Groundhog Day will now last forever. Memories of what is happening these days, remain only with Phil - all the other characters just go through the same date again and again. The protagonist decides to take advantage of the situation and tries to flirt with his colleague, Rita (performed by Andy McDowell), learning about her more and more every day. However, the efforts remain unsuccessful.

It is not necessary to retell the story further, but it is important to note that during the film with the character and philosophy of Phil there are incredible metamorphoses. For ten years, on which the Groundhog Day was stretched, he learned kindness, openness, love and, most importantly, to be himself. Some believe that the film is about this - life only then becomes real, and every day - unique and not copying exactly the previous one, when you are sincere and get rid of falsehood and lies.

Other critics say that the reign of eternity and immutability in the world of motion pictures is nothing but death itself. All the events that occur with the characters of the film during the day are erased from reality, life turns into nothingness. Initially, Phil tries to create the appearance of life, deciding that now you can do anything. Realizing in the end his helplessness, he falls into depression and unsuccessfully tries to die physically. And finally, after a long time, the main character comes to what was said above - to real life, interrupting this endless circle with Rita, to which he begins to experience true love.

The reason for the popularity of the movie "Groundhog Day" - not even in the philosophical subtext of the plot, especially not all viewers think about it. Rather, distinctly visible ideas about eternal values - love, kindness and humanity, presented in a beautiful and high-quality shell, find their way to the heart of any person who has seen this movie. And we can deal with the plot in quite different ways.
