LawState and Law

Citizenship is a political concept

Citizenship is a political concept and denotes a legally binding contract between the individual and the state. Both sides receive the necessary list of mutual rights and obligations, as well as legal tools for their implementation. In addition, the individual, in exchange for some restriction of freedom and the consent to live according to standardized behavioral practices, acquires in the person of authority, state and political institutions a formal "watchman" of personal rights and freedoms. Another issue is the political system of the state, which can be imprisoned for the implementation of this functional, but can ignore it and neglect it in the interests of the dominant social group.

Citizenship. Value aspect

However, citizenship is a concept both political, and territorial, and valuable. This is due not only to a personal "linkage" to a certain territory, a place of permanent residence, but also with a predominantly conscious understanding of belonging to a certain value, cultural and, therefore, political system. The change of value orientations often leads to a conflict situation, as a result of which the individual is able to change his citizenship. This is especially true of countries where authoritarian political regimes dominate .

Citizenship. The economic aspect

In the period of total globalization, citizenship is also an economic concept. A person is not just tied to the territory, he is tied to the place of work. He may be, for example, a citizen of Argentina, have his home in Brazil and work in the United States. And to live simultaneously in three countries - simply because it is so convenient for him. Or to have a dual citizenship (that's the value choice for you), but to work in a third country. Such examples are sufficient.

Basic features:

- The existence of an informal legal contract between an individual and a citizen. This means that citizenship is a concept that is not associated with either national, or historical or any other identification. It is about the political property of the state, which is citizenship.

- Payments on direct tax liabilities. Persons who do not have citizenship, but reside in the territory of another state, pay only indirect taxes related to their work activities.

Concept and principles of citizenship of the Russian Federation

Citizens of the Russian Federation automatically become natural persons born in the territory of our country, as well as persons who have passed the residence qualification and expressed a desire to acquire Russian citizenship. As a result, the concept of Russian citizenship includes certain obligations that both the individual and the state take on themselves. Conditions and requirements for registration of citizenship are fixed in the relevant federal legislation. Principles:

- legal registration of the relationship between a citizen and the Russian state. Both parties to the agreement operate within the legal framework of the Russian Federation;

- the constant nature of the relationship between a citizen and the state. Deprivation of citizenship is an exceptional measure, which is practically not applied.
