Chub: a fish that can win
If you ever sat on the river bank with a fishing rod, you probably know about the chasers. And this is no wonder, because the chub is a fish not only tasty, but also very strong, resistant at catching and not giving up even after it is ashore. It is for these qualities that the representatives of the freshwater fauna are fond of anglers, athletes, and all connoisseurs of spectacular and dynamic fishing.
This fish is also interesting to others. Among our amateur anglers, it is widely believed that the chub is a predatory fish, which should be caught solely on baits of animal origin. In any case, it is very difficult to find a book in which the opposite opinion was given. Some authors in general suggest that it is possible to obtain a decent specimen of this breed only on bait or using lures.
However, such a view can be refuted by the fact that the fish is described by our legendary compatriot Sabaneyev, who wrote that she is more omnivorous, as she willingly absorbs not only crayfish, small crayfish and fish fines, but does not disdain As well as aquatic vegetation.
Domestic authors note that "patriarchs" of this species, when they reach a weight of 10-12 kilograms, often attack juvenile waterfowl, thereby casting a shadow of suspicion of catfish. A young chub is a fish in food that is not too picky, eating almost all the food that has appeared in the field of vision. But a real holiday for them comes during the mass summer of May beetles: at this time they feed exclusively at their expense. These days, in the stomachs of the caught fish, in addition to beetles, it is still unreal to find anything.
The peculiarity of the chubs is also in their territoriality. They used this feature of their "character" long ago. Each large individual chooses a separate hunting territory for which no one is allowed. Most often hunting areas are areas between pools on the river, creeks, located immediately after the ridge, as well as in other places where quiet water is on the border with the streams of rapid current. The fact is that the chub, whose photo is given out in it by a born hunter, under such conditions gets an excellent opportunity to grab the stunned by the flow of prey.
However, when hunting for this wonderful fish, you need to know that in the morning and for most of the day chubs prefer to be in shallow water. It happens that even large specimens are found on such swaths, where the water level hardly reaches the knee of an adult. In May (when the years of May beetles begin), anglers successfully use this, rising upstream and launching a seductive beetle in the form of a nozzle.
