China, Shenzhen: history, attractions, photo

Shenzhen is a city in the south of China bordering the famous Hong Kong. It is the fastest growing region of the republic. It is a large financial, industrial and commercial center, attracting the attention of not only Western investors, but also the numerous tourists who want to visit China. Shenzhen is a fine example of modern urban architecture, represented mainly by skyscrapers. But lovers of Chinese history will find here a lot of interesting sights.

City `s history

Shenzhen is a young city, the construction of which began only in 1979. However, this territory has never been deserted. On the coast there were many fishing settlements. Later, with the support of the Chinese emperors, the salt industry developed here. The center of this region was the city of Nantou, which was considered the southern gate of the Celestial Empire. In the chronicles of the 8th century it is pointed out that the merchants stopped at Nantou, and the Chinese army guarded the delta of the river.

According to the chronicles, in the 13th century, the last Chinese emperor from the Southern Song Dynasty died in the territory of the future city, who tried to escape from the persecution of the hostile khan who seized China. Shenzhen became the place of rest for the fallen ruler. In the modern city, in memory of him, a symbolic monument and tomb was erected.

The modern history of Shenzhen originates in the 1970s, when China's de facto leader Deng Xiaoping chose these territories to form a new economic zone. It was supposed to be a counterbalance to the actively developing Hong Kong, which at that time was under British rule. A small fishing settlement, numbering about 30 thousand people, became actively built up, turning into a modern large metropolis.

Folklore village "Magnificent China"

Lovers of Eastern history and culture should definitely visit the folklore village "Magnificent China". On the territory of the park there is a huge number of miniature attractions, which China is famous for. Shenzhen will surprise you with almost detailed execution of monuments. There is even a small version of the Great Wall of China, which stretches across the park. To preserve the atmosphere of minimalism, only dwarf trees grow in the park. All this makes you feel like a real giant in the country of the Lilliputians.

The total area of the theme park is about 30 hectares. The whole territory is divided into two parts. One of them is the folklore "Magnificent China" itself, and the second one is called "The Village of Chinese Folk Culture". And if in the first part you can see the main attractions of the country, then the second part of the park will tell about the culture of the eastern villages, also made in miniature. It's very easy to get into the park. For this you need to buy tickets at the entrance. The territory of the village is extensive, so it is unlikely to be able to get around it completely in one day.

Park "Window to the World"

Another theme park was located in the western part of the city and was named "Window to the World." Unlike the "Magnificent China" there are wonders of the world from all over the world. Visitors can see the famous Taj Mahal, the Eiffel Tower, and the Roman Colosseum. Miniature copies completely repeat their originals. Moreover, tourists can not only look at them, but also visit. So, from the height of the miniature Eiffel Tower, an amazing view of Shenzhen opens. You can also take part in an improvised descent down the Colorado River or go to an African safari.

On weekends, the park hosts various festivals and celebrations. Visitors to the park can buy tickets directly at the entrance or book a tour in advance, only deciding to visit China. Shenzhen has allocated a huge area under the park, so it will take several days to fully explore the "Window to the World", because its territory occupies almost 50 hectares. It is divided into several thematic zones: Europe, Asia, Africa, America, Oceania, the World and the Center for Contemporary Science.

Wutong Mountain

Not only with its theme parks is famous for Shenzhen. China, whose attractions are very extensive, attracts, above all, its original nature. The example of the classical natural monument was Mount Wutong, which is the highest in the region. Its height is almost 950 meters above sea level.

Lifting is carried out on specially equipped steps and lasts on average about 4 hours. It is best to start climbing the mountain on weekdays, so as not to find a large number of tourists. To take food and drinks with you is not necessary, on the way to the top there are a lot of small shops selling everything you need at an inexpensive price. Besides them, on the way tourists will meet bicycle paths, souvenir shops and even a Buddhist temple.

Dapeng Fortress

The Dapeng Fortress is a historical monument embodying ancient China. Shenzhen is a city built recently, therefore ancient buildings here are a rarity. The fortress itself was built in the XIV century and was once part of the ancient city. Dapeng was a sea fortress defending the state from the south. Now there are a lot of buildings dating back to the Ming dynasty. The fortress played an important role in the famous Opium Wars, and also became famous for its guns, which protected the city from Japanese pirates.
