Ceresit CT 17 primer: specifications and consumption

Cladding with ceramic plates, laying equalizing masses for the floor, fixing heat insulation materials, painting, wallpapering - this is not the whole list of construction works, before which the material Ceresit CT 17 is used. Why should it be applied? This liquid primer penetrates into the pores of the uneven surface, thereby reducing its absorbent capacity, which further allows for better adhesion of the subsequent material to the substrate. Primer is universal and indispensable for any repair.

Operating principle

An obligatory condition for facade and interior works is the treatment of the surface with a special liquid, which contains binder elements. This requirement is required in order for the porous surface to be prepared for the application of the subsequent layer. For example, if you do not apply the primer to the plaster, and immediately start to glue the wallpaper on the finishing layer, then the area of adhesion of the latter to the surface decreases. The justification of this fact is that the adhesive will penetrate partially into the highly porous layer of plaster, and the wallpaper starts to gradually move away.

When Ceresit CT 17 primer is applied to the walls, the ceiling is sealed - its particles penetrate deeply into the material and harden. Therefore, the treated surface, in addition to strength, also acquires smoothness.

Protective functions

It is known that modern facing construction works are undesirable to be carried out without the use of a primer. But why? The answer will prompt the functions of the water-dispersion liquid:

  1. The use of Ceresit PT 17 primer affects the strengthening of the surface to be treated, prevents its destruction and deformation.
  2. It reduces the absorbent properties of the treated layer and binds the dust.
  3. The agent improves the adhesion of the finishing materials to the base impregnated with the primer.
  4. The primer has protective antiseptic and antibacterial properties.
  5. Does not reduce the vapor permeability of the surface, so it is used for priming screeds with heating.
  6. Environmental safety of the material.

Types of machined surfaces

The manufacturer stated that Water-dispersible primer Ceresit CT 17 is universal and can be used to apply to a surface that has a variety of physical properties. Indeed, the area of application of the composition of this modification is impressive: the treatment of internal and external surfaces before painting, ceramic lining, plaster and so on.

But there exists in the technical characteristics of the dispersion composition a list of surfaces on which the functions of the primer are carried out according to the laid properties:

  • Plasterboard materials.
  • Water-emulsion and acrylic paints.
  • Brick, concrete surfaces.
  • Styrofoam, expanded polystyrene.
  • Aerated concrete: gas and foam concrete.
  • Wood-fiber, particle board surfaces.
  • Plaster and cement-sand coatings.

For all listed bases, the requirements of SNiP must be met. The surface must be clean and dry before handling. Old paint, dust, lubricants should be removed beforehand. Defective areas that are on the verge of exfoliation, also need to be eliminated, and the surface is under repair. Constructional elements that do not require treatment with Ceresit CT 17 are recommended to cover with paper or film.

Consumption and characteristics

The structural composition of the primer of deep penetration of the trade mark "Ceresite" is an aqueous solution of polymers. According to the color design, it is a liquid of a yellowish hue. On the smell of primer Ceresit CT 17 should not resemble PVA glue, otherwise it is a sign of poor-quality material. The temperature at which normal application of the dispersion liquid is allowed, only positive - from 5 to 35 degrees. Therefore, it is better not to make facade work in the cold season, unless you get a winter version of the primer "Ceresite". The effectiveness of priming is achieved with an air humidity of 60% and an optimum temperature of +20 degrees. The layer treated with the composition of deep penetration of CT 17 should be thoroughly dried, as a rule, this time is 6 hours.

The consumption for a single-layer coating, declared by the manufacturer, is 0.1-0.2 liters per 1 m 2 . However, it can vary from the physical features of the surface to be treated.

The composition of Ceresit CT 17 has the following characteristics:

  • Density, kg / dm 3 - 1.
  • The smell is absent.
  • Color, structure - a liquid of a yellowish shade.
  • Depth of penetration - depending on the surface, from 0.5 mm and more.
  • The consumption per 1 m 2 is an average of 0.15 liters.

Packing, cost

On the market of building materials ST 17 is supplied in polymer cans in volumes of 2.5 liters and 10 liters. The cost of the primer for November 2015 is on average 300 and 550 rubles, respectively. It is more profitable to buy a dispersion liquid in a large volume. Since the Ceresit CT 17 primer has universal characteristics, it allows it to be used at different stages of construction and for a wide range of surfaces, so the material can replace similar compositions with a limited spectrum of action. It turns out savings on both material and cost.

The dispersion polymer liquid is stored at room temperature for up to 12 months, which makes it possible to apply a primer at various stages of construction during the year.

The sequence of work when applying CT 17

  1. Removal of flaking surfaces with a brush with steel pile.
  2. Filling of potholes and cracks, alignment.
  3. Surface treatment with compounds that clean the fungus, mold.
  4. Cleaning of the substrate from grease, dust and paint.
  5. If it is known that Ceresit CT 17 will be applied in several layers, the first treatment allows dilution of the primer with water 1: 1.
  6. After drying, the surface hygroscopicity should be checked. If the composition was applied to a porous material, then most likely, a re-treatment is required.
  7. Washing of the tool with water, in case of its strong contamination, the removal of the primer from the brush or roller can be carried out with the help of a solvent.
