Bunin, "The Sunny Impact": a short narrative and an analysis of the main character's frustration

There are works whose digest is difficult to formulate. Very little will tell a person who is not familiar with the work of the Nobel laureate and the great Russian writer, a brief summary of the book "Sunny Impact" of the author. Ivan Bunin wrote this small story in emigration, in 1925, apparently being impressed by his own memories of pre-revolutionary life, which seemed to him sunny and carefree, not boiling with other passions, except love.

Bunin

Russia writer left in 1920, sitting on a steamer, heading for Constantinople. Then he, after visiting Sofia and Belgrade, found himself in Paris, who soon changed to the South of France. Life in an alien Europe did not contribute to inspiration, it seemed that the best remained at home. But it was not only the distance that separated. The irretrievably departed atmosphere of Moscow and St. Petersburg, the worlds of Tolstoy and Goncharov sank, it seemed, into oblivion, and the realities of foreign lands could not induce the writer to take up his pen again. Only in 1924, the first half-stories-half-stories began to appear: "Mitya's Love", "The Case of the Cornet Elagin" and another work in which the new Bunin appeared, is "The Sunny Impact." Their brief content reveals nostalgic moods. Actors - officers, nobles, other citizens of the Russian Empire, who lived among the usual concepts of honor and justice. Perhaps, the subjects somewhat idealized the people of the ruined state and its way of life, but in these works there was also the truth, which is sometimes incomprehensible to Europeans, but so close to every Russian heart.

In 1933 Bunin became a Nobel laureate, but the noisy success associated with this event irritated him. Money - a considerable amount - was soon spent. Years passed, the writer survived the German occupation of France, waited for recognition in the USSR, but he never returned home. From his pen came many wonderful novels and novels, full of metaphysics and sensuality. IA Bunin died in Paris in the autumn of 1953.

Summary. "Sunstroke"

Bunin IA in his story told a story almost devoid of the plot. A young officer, lieutenant, on a ship navigating the Volga, gets acquainted with a woman. The reader does not know how beautiful she is: he sees the heroine through the eyes of a man in love, and this perception is always subjective. Then everything happens swiftly. If the writer wanted to write a story about an ordinary adultery, which was influenced by a sudden flare-up of passion, then from the same plot would come out a simple and rather scabrous anecdote about a lady and an officer. The couple descends from the steamer to the pier of a small county town, secluded in a hotel, and ... Next, the reader can give vent to his imagination. But Bunin did not write about this "Sunstroke". The summary, even in the most truncated form, can not do without describing the suffering of the young lieutenant left alone in the morning.

Madness

The young man did not even suspect how much he would make a passing novel. He suddenly realizes that without this woman he did not like the whole white light. Waiting for the next ship, he does not know what to do, but it's not so bad. He does not know how to live on, and is ready to commit the most insane action in order to restore the fleeing happiness. It is in the second part of the story that Ivan Bunin reveals himself as a true artist. "Sunstroke", the brief content and title of which completely characterizes the morbid state of mind, called frustration in psychiatry, allows us to see that the desire to live somehow differently, in a new way, comes into conflict with reality - tough and ruthless.

Women's cruelty

The lieutenant does not take offense at anyone. Moreover, he got exactly what he wanted, but in a strange way this "victory" turns against the most unlucky Casanova. The officer was so stunned by the impressions he received that, as if in a half-sleep, agrees to part with his lady, still not knowing how deep the sense of this loss will be for him. He still lacks life experience to anticipate what will happen to him in the next few hours. Obviously, many men experienced such feelings in their youth, including IA Bunin. "Sunstroke", the brief content of which we are discussing today, is silent about the emotions of the unknown lady who became the cause of the confusion of the spirit. Most likely, she suffered this parting much indifferent, although she remembered it for life.

Mikhalkovsky "The Sunny Impact"

NS Mikhalkov has long, by his own admission, looked at this work as an object for film adaptation. In 2014, he finally realized this creative idea, although with many conceptual additions. Even a brief summary of Bunin's story "Sunstroke" gives an idea that it is difficult to put a feature film on the basis of such a concise plot. But the story is so good that it could well become a connecting "skeleton" for several stories, unite them into something integral and allow you to look at the tragic events of the Civil War from a different angle. Sharp contrasts with Bunin's "Cursed Days" gave a special expressiveness of the story of the fleeting enthusiasm for the lieutenant. True love , the author did not name the feeling, the heroes of each other did not recognize him.
