Brake discs on Prioru: choice, installation, reviews. LADA Priora

The braking system is an important part of any car. Lada Priora is no exception. It is important to monitor the proper operation of the elements and, if necessary, replace them. What brake discs to put on "Prior" and how to replace them with your own hands? About all this and not only - later in our article.

Symptoms

What are the symptoms that you can determine that you need to replace the brake discs on the "Prior"? The main sign of wear is the behavior of the car. When deformed or the worn working surface of the disc, the brakes will "clinch" when the pedal is depressed. Also, when the pads are triggered, a strong gnashing is possible (not to be confused with the squeaking of the friction material itself). If there is a crack, the braking is accompanied by a beating on the steering wheel. The friction lining touches the smallest flaps and other irregularities on the working surface of the disc. As a result, its material crumbles, and you feel an increased vibration. It can be transmitted not only to the steering wheel, but also throughout the body. Depends on the severity of wear or the amount of deformation. In this case, it is recommended to visually inspect the element. If there are no visible cracks, remove the wheel and slide your finger along the working surface of the disc. If you feel unevenness, it says that the element overheated and, due to expansion and contraction, deformed. It should be noted that the steering wheel can be beaten only when the pedal is depressed. If this symptom is observed during movement, you may have unbalanced wheels or dropped one of the weights. Often with an increase in speed, these vibrations increase.

About the groove

Is it reasonable to repair the brakes? "Priora" - the car is relatively inexpensive, but the price of recycling old drives is up to 75 percent of the cost of new items. In addition, this method of recovery is ineffective in severe deformations in the form of cracks and large workings (the thickness of the working surface is less than 6 millimeters). Reviews of motorists say that a reasonable solution will be to purchase a new set of drives. At a groove of old, the probability of repeated signs is great. After a couple of thousand kilometers, this car starts to vibrate again, and the brakes become less informative. And without a difference, whether the groove was performed on the removed element or straight on the hub. If you want to be sure of your safety, put new brake discs on the "Prior". Which are better to choose - we will consider further.

Varieties

Now on the shelves offer two types of discs on the "Prior." These are unventilated and perforated. What brake discs on the "Prior" will be more effective? Let's look at each type.

Non-ventilated

These are the simplest brake discs, which are installed on the basic equipment of Lada Priora cars. It is believed that this type has an obsolete design and is not used on modern machines. Foreign manufacturers put unventilated disks in the far 90s of last century. Since the "zero", even the budget class was equipped with vented elements. The disc itself is a round blank with a thickness of 10 to 20 millimeters. Often it is made by casting - this is one continuous element. More expensive analogues have a collapsible design. They can change the work surface. But their price at times exceeds the cost of brake discs on the "Prior" of the usual cast type. The range varies from one and a half to seven thousand rubles. The "budget" niche is occupied by just unventilated disks, due to its simple design.

Perforated

These elements have a more complex device. The design combines two thin metal discs 5 mm thick. Between them there are so-called channels through which the flow of air passes. Thanks to such ventilation, the operating temperature of the disc is reduced by a factor of 1.5 or 2. And as we know, when braking there is a friction force, which is converted into thermal energy. Disks need a high-quality heat sink.
If it is not there, the metal will overheat. As a result, we get literally crooked disks, and possibly cracked ones. Also, the stopping distance decreases. In comparison with unventilated analogs, it is lower by 15 percent. In addition, the service life of the brake pads increases, since the friction material no longer operates under critical temperature loads.

Few facts

Initially, the perforation appeared on sports cars. The working part of the brake disc was drilled on special equipment. As a result, through holes and grooves were obtained through which the air circulated from the center to the outside. A few years later, the perforation began to be applied to ordinary civilian cars. But, despite such popularity, the price of such disks did not decrease at all, as the production technology remained the same. In addition, high accuracy of work is required. At the slightest discrepancy with the standard, such a disc is rejected and not sold.

On the efficiency of inhibition

When the pads are in contact with the disk, gases (boundary layer) form which prevent good adhesion of the friction material to the working surface. Due to the presence of grooves, they are easily output to the outside. In the case of unventilated disks, these gases continue to slide over the metal, preventing the normal operation of the pads. As a result, the stopping distance increases. As we have already said, the preformation allows us to reduce its length by 15 percent. Provides a 100-percent grip between the metal disc and the working surface of the shoe. In some cases, in addition to the holes, grooves are used. They have a depth of about two millimeters and are directed toward the rotation of the disk. The grooves perfectly clean the working surface of accumulated dirt, sand and other deposits that were formed there when driving a car. In the absence of perforation, this dust is deeply deposited on the surface of the disc. Because of this, a scratch occurs during braking. The driver can not understand the cause of the malfunction, especially if the pads have recently been replaced.

What to choose in the end?

What are the front brake discs for the Prioru? Reviews of motorists converge in one thing - it all depends on the style of driving. If you prefer an aggressive manner, with sharp accelerations and braking, the presence of perforations and grooves you just need. But if the machine is used for slow driving, there is reason to think about installing non-ventilated disks. A compromise option is the purchase of ventilated disks without perforation, but with grooves. This is the average price range - from 3 to 5 thousand rubles per unit. So you will be assured of serviceability of the system and ensure maximum safety of driving, reducing the braking distance by several meters. Plus, if these are alloy wheels, such grooves will give your car more sportiness.

Original and fake

Now the market has a huge number of fakes, which are sold under the famous brands Zimmerman, ATE, Bosch and Brembo. To distinguish the original from the copy is easy enough. First of all, this is the thickness of the disk. If it is less than one centimeter, most likely, in your hands a copy. Reviews of motorists recommend attention to the place of connection of two parts of the disk. Internal grooves should be connected smoothly to the working surface. If there is a strict angle of 90 degrees, such disks simply crack. Well, the last factor is the price. It is two to three times lower than the original. Compare the cost of the same model at different outlets. If it is significantly different, and the disc has a different weight, a counterfeit is sold in one of the stores.

Dismantling and installation

So, the new items are bought and waiting for the installation. Installation can be done by hand. For this we need a standard set of tools.

Instruments

In order to install new brake discs on Prior, we need a chisel, a jack, a balloon, a hammer, a clean container with a capacity of up to 500 ml, a screwdriver, a medical syringe, and a set of 7 and 13 and 17 millimeter heads and keys. The last two we will unscrew the caliper and pads.

What next?

First put the car on a handbrake and put back anti-rollers. Next, with the balloon key, we remove wheel bolts and jack the front part. We remove the wheels and unscrew the reservoir with the brake fluid. Using a vacuum syringe, pour the part into a pre-prepared container until the level in the tank drops to half. So we exclude its hit on the pads when they are dismantled. Next we need a thick minus screwdriver. We establish it between the outer brake shoe and the support and pull the piston. It is important not to damage it - for this reason, work extremely carefully. Then we pick up the key "for 13" (you can take a horn or ratchet) and unscrew the lower fixing bolt. If there is a retaining clip, turn it with a screwdriver or bend it with a chisel with a hammer. Using the key "for 17" press the thumb. We raise the bracket, take out the pads, extract the two bolts that go to the support and turn the dial by 7 to turn it off. Next, you can put new brake discs on the "Prior." Reassemble in the reverse order.

Advice

When replacing the disc, you must install new pads. This is a mandatory step. Some manufacturers give a pair of new pads when buying a disc. Also, observe the symmetry. Suppose you have a cracked drive, and you bought one standard "for replacement". If you put a new one only on one side, there will be an uneven distribution of braking forces and asymmetric wear. The same goes for the pads. They change only in pairs. Also, when replacing, pay attention to the condition of other parts - the anthers of the caliper, the guides. In the presence of backlashes and deformation / wear marks, replace them. After the brake discs on the "Prior" have been successfully installed, top up the liquid in the tank and pump the system. It is inadmissible to have bubbles in it - braking on such a car becomes inefficient. The liquid just boils from the compression of air.

About the resource

The term of replacement of this element directly depends on the style of your driving. The more often you accelerate and brake, the lower the resource node. The factory brake discs, installed on Prioru, can withstand up to two hundred thousand kilometers of run. But with aggressive driving this term can be less than one hundred thousand. If possible, brake the transmission and beforehand turn on the "neutral" before the red traffic light. Use more "rolling" - this will not only save the discs and pads (the latter change every 25 thousand kilometers), but also increase the service life of the gearbox. Also significantly saved fuel.

So, we found out how to choose the brake pads and install them yourself on the car "Lada Priora."
