Battery for motherboard: reality or fiction

The fact that all laptops, netbooks, tablets and other portable computing devices are capable of running on battery power does not surprise anyone. This is very convenient - this possibility allows you not to depend on the vagaries of power grids. Developers of peripheral devices for personal computers quickly realized the relevance of this direction and began deliveries to the market of uninterruptible power supplies, better known under the term UPS (from UPS). This is also known to everyone. But how many computer owners know that their electronic helpers always work, as they say, on batteries? Of course, it is not necessary to understand what has been said literally: without switching on 220 Volts it is impossible to turn on the system. But the battery on the motherboard, after all, is there. This is easily verified by opening the case of the system unit and looking inside. Silver metal circle - this is the source of electricity, made in the form of a tablet. The battery for the motherboard is lithium, labeled CR-2032. If it is necessary to replace it, a new one should be used for this name. If the battery on the motherboard has sat down, then this can not be overlooked.

The most obvious manifestation is a constant reset of the system clock at 00:00 every time you turn on the computer. Also the date is confusing. But this is already in the most neglected cases, when the energy reserves in the source are completely depleted. As the battery for the motherboard "sits down" gradually, then at first the system clock will lag, and with each passing day more and more.

Most users notice this and contact the service centers. The battery for the motherboard is inexpensive, and the replacement of it - a matter of a couple of minutes, so "repair" is performed quickly, literally, in front of the owner of the computer. In fact, the battery for the motherboard can be replaced by yourself.

By the way, such a power source is needed, in particular, in order to save BIOS settings. Here you can adjust the clock, date, the order of loading from different devices, prohibit / resolve certain features of the motherboard, etc. Actually, even the "acceleration" of components - the prerogative of BIOS. Without a battery, the computer works, but with the default settings. You can make adjustments, but they will remain until the first shutdown from the network. And this, you see, is not the most convenient option!

Let's list the "symptoms" that indicate the need to install a new battery:

- the system clock is lagging behind or falling off;

- the BIOS settings are reset, which can cause the operating system to stop loading (by the way, if a message appears on the computer that it can not boot, or Windows is constantly "reset", the probable cause is a "dead" battery);

- Some devices start to malfunction.

To change this component is very simple. First, you need to de-energize the computer by pulling the power plug from the socket (the buttons on the extension cord are not enough, since it is not known what exactly it breaks - "zero" or "phase"). Now you should find a battery on the motherboard, gently bend the contact, fixing it in the socket, and remove it. If a new product is not yet purchased, then you can take the extracted sample and go with it to the store where the batteries are sold . Inserting a new battery into the connector is much easier if you first "drown" one side of it, and then the other. That's all. You can turn on the computer, go into the BIOS (the Delete button) and configure it.
