Basic rules of golf

Golf - an exciting game in which not the last place is occupied by strategic thinking, purposefulness and zeal, combined with tolerance and dimensionality. Golf is unacceptable haste and arrogance. Therefore, it is believed that this game is not suitable for the masses. At first glance it seems that in golf there is nothing complicated. In fact, entire books are written about the rules of this game. We will consider the rules of golf briefly. Their awareness allows, at least, not to cause confusion among professional players.

Historical digression

It is commonly believed that golf originated in Scotland and was coined by shepherds. In order not to be bored with grazing, with the help of staffs they drove sheep's balls into mouse holes. Over time, some of the shepherds became large landowners, and the game gained a different meaning. Golf has become a reliable cover for business conversations, because the site had the least risk of being overheard. It is assumed that the origin of the game occurred in the XIV century, but in the modern form it appeared only in the XIV century, in the very Scotland. Approximately at the same time there were rules of golf.

Terminology

Before considering the rules of golf, we will deal with the main terminology of the game. The zone from which the game begins is called "tee". The same word is called a ball stand, in shape resembling a screw. The main part of the field is occupied by a zone called "fairways". This is a relatively flat area with grass of medium height. "Putting Green" (or simply "green") - a site with the lowest grass on which the hole is located. There is always a zone called "raf" between the "tee" and the "green", except for the "fairway". High grass and shrubs grow on it, there are other obstacles. From this zone the ball is much harder to knock out than from the other. In addition to grass and high vegetation, the golf course can include water, sand and other obstacles.

In golf, there are different strokes, differing from each other in strength, direction and twist. The most common blow is called "drive". It is carried out at the very beginning of the game, to send the ball as far as possible from the "tee". "Patt" is called a light rolling blow, which is done on the "green", in order to accurately roll the ball into the hole. "Swing" - swinging the stick in the performance of any blow. "Par" - the number of strokes that the player must be sufficient for the passage of the hole. And, finally, the assistant of the player who transfers the inventory, and can help with advice, is called a caddy. Of course, this is not all the terms used in the game, but to master the rules of golf for beginners, they are enough.

How is the game going?

Golf is as simple as it is complex. The main task of the game is to score the ball in the hole as quickly as possible (for fewer blows). The round consists of 18 holes. The game can be of two types: match and at the expense of punches. In the first case, it is counted how many holes the player passed faster than the opponent. The second is the total number of strokes spent on passing all the holes.

The main principles of golf:

  1. "Play on the field, as it is."
  2. "Play the ball as he lay down."
  3. "If the above is not possible, act justly."

Etiquette

Etiquette includes rules of courtesy and order on the field of the game, as well as care for this very field. They are not regulated by official rules, but are considered no less important. Consider the main ones.

  • Do not be late . This does not mean that it's worth to fuss, run after the ball and hastily beat it, not aiming. Just do not have to tune out for too long. But what you need, so it's to ensure that when it's your turn to beat, you were near the ball. In this case the players have enough time for conversation. However, to speak, when the other player beats, is not accepted. The game should go so that between your group and the group going before you, there was about half the hole.
  • Wait for your turn . You always need to know when the time comes for your impact. The first with the "tee" usually beats the one who passed the previous hole faster than anyone. You can be either by the established order within the group, or by agreement "reddi golf". Its essence is that if a player is ready - he beats. When all the balls hit the "green", do not forget about the flag. A flag from the glass is pulled by the player whose ball is closest to the hole. If not all players of the group see the hole, the above player "serves" it - makes sure that the flag is removed as it approaches the moon rolling ball. The player who first scored the ball in the hole, usually returns the flag to the place after the group passes it.
  • Shout "Fort!" If the ball flies in person . Players often do this, especially with a strong impact from the "tee." Once you understand that there is even the slightest risk of injuring another player, shout at the top of your voice! Do not be shy about it. It will be much worse if the ball does get into someone.
  • Treat the field with care . To keep the golf course in good condition, a lot of people work on it. Therefore, players take care of it. If you are traveling on an unfamiliar field on a golf cart, find out if you can ride it on the grass. If not, then the golf car will have to be left on the track. Whatever it was, it's not customary to drive around "putting-green".

If you have knocked out a piece of grass cover ("divot") with a strong blow, you need to either put it in place and press it down with your foot, or fill a special mixture of sand and seeds with the seeds. It, as a rule, can be found on a golf cart or ask for a caddy. When struck in the "putting green" on the grass, there are often dents. They are repaired with special forks. After the impact from the sand, it should be leveled with special rakes.

  • Do not stand "at your fingertips . " Golf is just as traumatic a sport as it is elegant. So do not be too close to the kicker. The more so that you can prevent him. The ideal position is behind and a bit on the side. Never stand on the "patt" line.

Beginning of the game

It's time to consider the rules of golf directly. Before the start of the round, you need:

  1. Read the local rules that you will be given on the corresponding card.
  2. Put your mark on the ball. Many golfers play the same balls. If during the game you could not identify your ball, it is recognized as lost.
  3. Count your clubs. You can not have more than 14 sticks.

In the game, you can ask advice only from your partner or caddy. You can give advice only to a partner. Training shots during the game are prohibited.

Blow with "ti"

Set the ball to enter it into the game you need between the relevant markers. To put the ball behind the markers is allowed (the distance should not exceed two clubs), and in front - it is forbidden. In a match game, a strike outside the specified zone will not result in a fine, but the opponent has the right to ask to be killed. In the game, a penalty in the form of two strikes is imposed on the account for the violation.

Ball game

The rules of golf say that you need to hit the ball from the position in which it stopped. It is forbidden to move the ball and disturb the appearance of the vegetation in order to improve its position. It is possible to touch plants only in the process of taking the strut for impact and directly upon impact.

If the ball was in the "bunker" (a section with sand) or hit the water obstacle, touching the surface of these elements is allowed only when moving to the ball for the purpose of impact. If you played someone else's ball, in a match game it will mean losing the hole, and in the game to the account - a penalty in the form of two hits.

At the "putting-grine"

If the "patt" line has traces of old holes or balls, they can be corrected. Other damages, including footprints from shoes, can not be touched. The golf ball on this site can be picked up and cleaned, provided that it is returned to the same place. Check the surface of the "green" to the touch or skating the ball is prohibited. If the ball hits the flagpole on impact, it means a loss of the hole in the match game and a penalty in the form of two strikes in the game on the account.

The ball has moved

If the golf ball has been moved by you, your partner or assistant, in any way not provided by the rules, you need to return it to its original place and add 1 penalty kick. The same must be done if the ball has changed its position when preparing to strike. If the ball is moved by an opponent or another ball, simply return it to its place.

The ball changed direction in motion

If during the movement the ball stopped or changed its trajectory by your own fault or through the fault of your partner or assistant, then you lose the hole in the match game and get two free throws in the game on the account. In the second case, the ball beats from the place where it was.

If the ball has changed the trajectory or stopped due to the fault of strangers, then you can continue to play them without any sanctions from the place in which it turned out. But there are some exceptions. First, in a match game, you have the right to repeat the blow from the previous position, if the opponent or his assistant is to blame for changing the direction of the ball. Secondly, in the game at the expense of strikes, if the ball has changed direction to "putting green", you have to repeat it.

If the hit ball collided with another ball that was at rest, you can continue the game without imposing sanctions. However, in the game to the account, if both balls were in the "putting green," a penalty is imposed for the collision in the form of two strikes.

Lifting and throwing in the ball

If the ball rises to be set to its original position, its position must be fixed with a marker. If the ball enters the repair area, random water, into a hole, or refuse from animals (for example, rabbits), it is allowed to throw it into the field, at a distance no more than one stick from the nearest free point. It is forbidden to throw the ball in the side of the hole.

If the position of the ball can worsen the game of any of the players, the ball is allowed to raise. And vice versa - if you are interfered with by any ball, you can demand that it be raised.

Obstacles and interference

At the beginning of the game is to clarify the local rules of the location of fixed obstacles (roads, paths, etc.). In this case, mobile obstacles (rakes, banks, etc.) can be moved to any part of the field. If, hitting them, the ball has changed the trajectory, it is allowed to repeat the blow.

In the event that a static obstacle interferes with your stand or kick, you are allowed to throw the ball in the above rules. If the barrier is on the line of impact, this is not a reason to ease your situation. An exception is possible only if both the ball and the barrier are on the "putting green"

Water obstacles

On the counting card, local rules regarding water obstacles must be indicated. Specify with its help whether the nearby water bodies (if any) are a water obstacle, or they are classified as a side barrier.

In the first case, the ball that gets into the water is played from the position in which it turned out, or with a penalty of one strike in two ways:

  1. The ball is thrown to the ground behind the water obstacle. In this case, it must be on the line between the hole and the place it fell into.
  2. The ball is beating from the position from which it was sent into the water.

In case the pond is considered a side barrier, then in addition to the above rules, with one strike of a fine, it can be thrown at a distance of no more than 2 sticks from the place where it crossed the water obstacle. You can do this either in front of the barrier, or behind it. In the second case, the distance is considered from the point, which is equal to the point of intersection, relative to the hole.

The ball was out of the field or was lost

In the counting card, among other things, the limits of the golf course must be indicated. If the ball was knocked out of the field or enclosing a water obstacle, its owner receives 1 penalty kick and beats a new ball from the same place. The lost ball is considered to be lost, which was not found within 5 minutes. If the player roughly knows where to look for the ball, but does not want to delay the team, he can use a "temporary ball". After striking it, the player must go in search of the lost ball, while the others will also make their punches.

Unplayable ball

If the ball is on the ground, but you are sure that it can not be played because of an unsuccessful situation, then with a fine in one blow is allowed:

  1. Throw the ball over a distance not exceeding the length of two clubs, in any direction, except the direction of the hole.
  2. Throw the ball at any distance to the side opposite the hole, provided that the ball remains on the same line with the hole and the place of the failed strike.
  3. Overplay the ball.

Having become acquainted with the basic rules, we will consider some attributes, without which this game would be incomplete. Golf - not just a sport, but a whole action, in which there are no trifles.

Clothes and footwear

Properly selected golf clothing attests to respect for the person who invited you to the game, and to the game itself. In this game, the representation is not an excess, but a rule of good taste. To look good on the golf course, pay attention to these points:

  1. A shirt (T-shirt) with a collar is a must.
  2. Instead of trousers you can put on shorts, but they should reach at least to the knees.
  3. Clothing made of denim is unacceptable!
  4. On trousers or shorts, there must be straps under the belt.
  5. The most suitable belt is leather.
  6. Golf clothing can be colored, but do not use many colors at the same time. It looks good when one bright color is combined with a neutral one. Patterned and checkered elements should be no more than one.
  7. Golf shoes are also different from simple sports shoes. It used to be with metal spikes. Now they were replaced with soft spikes or just a special pattern of the sole. In case you are going to stay at the club house for dinner, it's worth taking a pair of simple sports shoes with you. If you wear pants, the color of socks should be in harmony with them. And if the shorts - socks are selected for shoes.
  8. Headgear is worn at will. The main thing is that it corresponds to the style.
  9. In cold weather, sweaters, waistcoats or golf jackets are additionally worn.

Sticks and balls

As already mentioned, the rules of golf allow you to use no more than 14 clubs. In this case, if you started the game with less, in the game you can replenish your arsenal. "How many times can I change a golf club?" - an urgent issue among beginners. You can take a new stick for each blow, the main thing is that it should be included in those 14. Another important point: during the game it is prohibited to change the characteristics of the selected clubs by adjusting them or weighting / easing them.

For a beginner, 3-4 sticks with different characteristics will be enough. Playing a couple of games with this amount, you can decide on their personal preferences and purchase additional shells. You need to buy balls considering how much you are willing to lose them. The more you lose the balls per game, the cheaper it is to choose models. Perhaps, this is all that is needed for golf at first.

Conclusion

Golf is not an expensive pleasure. But is this the main reason for his belonging to elite ways of hanging out? Learning more closely the rules of golf and its etiquette, you can understand that it's not about money, but about behavior, which for many even in theory is incomprehensible and meaningless. Golf is impregnated with respect both to partners and rivals, and to the field and historical past of the game. All this, along with the game strategy, creates a unique atmosphere, which falls in love with itself finally and irrevocably.
