Apprendre: conjugation of the verb of group III

The high-frequency and multifunctional verb in French is apprendre. The conjugation is made according to the rules of the verbs of the third group, that is, outside the regular rule.

The third, the smallest, group of French verbs is a class of words that have singularities in their conjugation - these are exceptions. Groups I and II divide most of the verbs, according to the endings -er, -ir, and provide a general conjugation paradigm. Wrong verbs do not make it possible to conjugate them by analogy and require learning.

Conjugation of the verb will be useful only if you understand for yourself the meaning of the word used. Apprendre has several shades of meaning and is more understandable within a synonymous series of similar verbs.

Features of conjugation

Despite the fact that the third group of verbs includes exceptions, the words in it also tend to unite in generality by analogy. For example: comprendre, reprendre, éprendre, apprendre. The conjugation of these and similar irregular verbs with different prefixes and polar values corresponds to one common paradigm of the prenre verb, simple in morphemes. The basis of his Pr-, respectively Appr- - the basis for apprendre. The conjugation will consist in joining to the basis of the endings of different times.

In the past tense of the imperfect kind, in the same way, the endings will be added to the appren- form.
