And do you know why the beet leaves blush? What to do if the leaves are red and curled

Beets are a very unpretentious garden crop. Even with minimal care, the hassle of summer residents is not enough. However, problems, of course, can arise with the cultivation of this plant. For example, truck farmers often wonder why the leaves turn red. In fact, there are several reasons for this phenomenon.

Lack of sodium

Most often, the beet leaves change color to red precisely because of the lack of this trace element. Increase the sodium content in the soil can be very simple way. You just need to pour a bed of beets with brine. For its preparation 250 grams of common table salt should be dissolved in ten liters of water. For each meter of planting it is necessary to use about one liter of such a solution. To water a beet thus it is necessary not under a root, and it is direct on leaves.

However, before proceeding with this procedure, you should make sure that the answer to the question: "Why did the leaves become red?" Is the lack of sodium. The fact is that the excess of this microelement in the soil can cause a decline in yield. After all, everyone knows that achieving good results in the cultivation of garden crops, for example, in salt marshes, is very difficult.

Phosphorus and potassium

What other answers to the question of why the leaves are red in the beetroot? If the plates first faded and darkened, and then blushed, then the reason, most likely, is not at all a lack of sodium. Perhaps the plants lack phosphorus. Increase its content in the soil can be by introducing appropriate fertilizers. You can use, for example, superphosphates.

Sometimes dacha owners also have a question about why beets turn red and twist leaves (at the same time). A similar problem usually occurs when there is a shortage of potassium in the soil. In this case, the plates lose their bright green color beforehand, and then they acquire a very dark red shade (almost lilac) and begin to twist. To correct a situation in this case it is possible by entering in a bed of any potassium fertilizers. A good solution will also be to make the wood ashes. On the square meter of her bed is usually used one glass.

Soil acidity

An unsuitable ground pH reaction is another answer to the question of why the leaves turn red in the beetroot. What to do in this case? First of all, of course, you should determine the pH level of the soil on the bed. Beet is a plant that prefers neutral soils and does not tolerate acidic soils at all. Check the reaction of the soil is not difficult. To do this, you can use, for example, litmus paper. Determine the pH of the soil can also be done with the use of acetic essence and baking soda. If there is no paper, you just need to take a lump of earth from the bed, wet it and make a "cake" on some flat surface. Then you should pour a little bite on top. If there is a reaction with the release of bubbles, then the soil is alkaline. If nothing happens - either neutral or sour.

Next, you need to make another "cake" and pour soda over it. If this provokes a reaction, then the soil is acidic, and one can no longer think about why the leaves are red in the beetroot. The reason, most likely, is precisely this.

To deoxidize the soil in the garden with beets is also best with the help of wood ash. You can, of course, take and dolomite flour or lime. However, these elements act on the ground quite "rude". In any case, the ash does not damage the root crops. The rate of its consumption for deoxidation depends on the pH level. On average, it is 100 g per 1 m 2 .

Why the leaves are curled

Thus, we have found out why the leaves are red in the beetroot. What to do in this case, you now know. But sometimes gardeners also have another problem with this culture: the plates are simply twisted. If they do not blush - the reason, most likely, lies not in the lack of potassium, but in the defeat of aphids. In this case, the colonies of these small green insects, as well as their gray larvae, will be clearly visible on the underside of the plates. Fight with beet aphids should be started immediately. Otherwise, the coagulated leaves will soon turn yellow and wilted.

To treat a garden with a beet from aphids is better than infusion of an onion peel (200 g per 10 l) or a preparation "Aktofit". You can also mix 2 tbsp. L. Liquid soap, 50 g of tobacco dust and pour all this with a liter of water.

Why the leaves turn yellow

This problem usually arises if the beet is too seldom watered. Also, losing their green color leaves can be due to a shortage of nitrogen fertilizers in the soil. Yellowing in this case usually begins to spread from veins, and the growth of plates slows down.

Feed beets in case of such a problem can be mullein in concentration 1: 8 or bird droppings 1:12. On the square meter of the bed in should be used 1-1.2 liters of solution.

Well, we hope that we have sufficiently developed the answer to the question of why the leaves of the beet are blushing and for what reason they can be twisted. In the event of such problems, most likely, you will have to make ash in the bed and shed it with a weak solution of edible salt. Tulum can be expelled by spraying (infusion of onion husk), and in case of yellowing of the plates, it is necessary to feed the beetroot with mullein.
