"Adeptus Mechanicus": description and origin

There is one very interesting institution of the Imperium in the fictional world of "Warhammer 40000" - "Adeptus Mechanicus". The main function of this organization is the promotion and preservation of technological, as well as scientific thought. The "Adeptus Mechanicus" is a cult, but the Ecclesiarchy does not seem to notice it and is in no hurry to assign a heretical status. In this article we will describe in detail about this organization.

Occurrence

When did this cult appear, which is so famous in the universe of Warhammer 40000? "Adeptus Mechanicus" arose on Mars long before the founding of the Imperium. At that time, the galaxy was enveloped in warp storms, destroying everything in its path. On the red planet, they led to the death of the ecosystem, which was created several centuries. At the same time, many of the surviving people turned into degraded mutants.

Then came the Altar of Technology, and the worship of God the Machine began. His followers methodically searched for the fragments of lost knowledge and were engaged in the construction of anti-radiation shields and shelters. All the unbelievers exerted fierce resistance and were soon pushed into the deserts of Mars. There, most of them died.

After the restoration of order on the planet, the techno-priests engaged in the study of the Holy Terra. They found out that the civilization of the ancient ancestral home of humanity collapsed. Terra filled with hordes of ferocious barbarians, fighting with each other. Other worlds of people, too, were not in the best condition. Quite a lot of research ships disappeared in the vastness of the galaxy. But the survivors founded colonies on the model of Mars and turned into world-factories.

Cult Adeptus Mechanicus

He teaches that not only knowledge is sacred, but also any of their carriers. The highest object of faith is the God Machine (Omnissia, Deus Mechanicus). He is the omnipotent and omnipresent spirit. Omnissia is usually considered an aspect of the Divine Emperor. On the other hand, for the mechanics only their cult is relevant. They do not obey the authority of the Ecclesiarchy.

Omnissia is friendly to people and it is he who produces all the technologies that exist in the universe of Warhammer. "Adeptus Mechanicus" also receives from him scientific knowledge. God of Machine obeys the Spirits of the Mechanisms. To ensure the stable operation of technology, they need to pray.

As the code "Adeptus Mechanicus" says, the ultimate goal of the cult is the understanding of Omnissia. It can only be achieved through the search for knowledge. This is an intermediate goal of mechanics. According to their teaching, all knowledge already exists, it is just necessary to find it, study it and put it together. Adepts "Adeptus Mechanicus" very rarely conducts research. And if they do this, they necessarily classify the results.

The coming of the divine emperor

When the Era of Discord ended, the Emperor came to the Holy Terra. He unleashed a few wars, which eventually rallied people. Thus began the Great Crusade for the unification of mankind. As a result, the technicians of Mars made him the embodiment of Omnissia and legalized the new Imperium. But not everyone agreed with this decision. During the Civil War, all the opponents of the Divine Emperor were destroyed.

The Crusade helped the technomages to establish a connection between the factories-worlds, as well as create many new ones. Throughout its entire length, the followers of God-Machines were engaged in supplying the army of the Emperor.

Heresy of Horus

She suddenly swept through the Adeptus Mechanicus, tearing the newborn Imperium. Very many members of the cult passed to the side of the heretics, turning the weapons against their former brethren. Since then, all techno-traitors-traitors have come to be called no other than the dark adeptus mechanicus. They were led by Solomon Abbadon, an archmage who founded the citadel of Jericho.

In this fortress was an incredibly powerful artifact, protecting it from orbital bombardments. However, the imperial army found a way to conquer Jericho, and the dark adeptus mechanic could do nothing about it. The acoustic destroyer was developed, which was erased from the face of the earth by the citadel of techno-ethics. After the destruction of the Chaos worshipers, the mechanics took their place in the imperial structure. And the general-manufacturer of Mars, standing in their chapter, became the Supreme Lord.

Mars

It is the capital of mechanics and the sister planet of Sacred Terra. Settlements of people on Mars from ancient times, neighbors with radioactive deserts. They formed afterwards numerous wars of the past.

Mars is the greatest miracle of the Imperium of Man, the first and most powerful world-forge. From this planet an inexhaustible flow of supplies of military equipment and weapons for the defenders of mankind. Also on Mars are shipyards, regularly replenishing the imperial fleet.

Hierarchy

Any fictional universe has its own structure, including Warhammer 40,000. The Adeptus Mechanicus also has it. And it is quite complicated. Techno-adept, moving to higher levels of the hierarchy, tries to get rid of the fetters' fetters, replacing it with implants. Changes are not only to his body, but to the mind. With each improvement, it is increasingly different from the human.

Technomages

These are the masters of the "Adeptus Mechanicus" (miniatures of the heroes of the cult are sold in any toy store). They differ in many disciplines. There are Magomed Lexmehanikus, Magos Bios, Magos Alhemis and others. As for the higher ranks, these are the archimagos. Separately it is worth noting Magos researchers who are combing the Galaxy in search of ancient knowledge.

Generators

They are specialists in biotechnology. They are engaged in research of new worlds, searching for new DNA samples. Then they are introduced into the ecosystem of imperial animals.

Logis

These are the advisers of the Adeptus Mechanicus cult, whose symbol is represented by a skull in the background of the gear. They are logic, analytics and statistics. They are able to predict events with a minimum probability of error. Logs have a reputation for visionaries, giving successful predictions.

Lexmehanics

Carefully examine and compare the facts. With accuracy and speed of computers, reports from planets, battlefields and economic statistics are processed. Their main goal is the collection and optimization of data in the main computer storage of Mars.

Techno-Marines

They only study on Mars. They serve both their order and the cult of the Adeptus Mechanicus.

Runic Priests

They are responsible for singing liturgies and applying sacred runes. The latter are needed for the Spirits machine spell.

Servitori

Heretics, thieves, bandits and other antisocial personalities who opposed the Machine God are subject to conversion to soulless cyborg slaves. Their minds are edited first, and then programmed to perform dangerous and / or primitive tasks. There are many types of servitors, from cleaners to combat models that have the firepower of a tank.

Source servitor - this body (to be precise, the central nervous system), artificially grown in the biological reservoir. It can also be a recruit who has not gone to the Space Marines or a lobotomized criminal. After programming, a person becomes a living robot, and his brain - a central processor.

Lingua Techs

It is the sacred language of the Adeptus Mechanicus. Until the 40th millennium was used in many worlds, and then became the prerogative of only this cult. For tech-priests, lingua technics is the only language acceptable to God-Machine, which is used for communication between technology and people: machine spirits, logical machines and servitors.

In the books "Drinking Souls" and "Adepts of Darkness" this language is described as a collection of clicking and hissing sounds, corresponding to zeros and units of machine code.

Armed forces

The variety of troops is one of the distinguishing features of the "Warhammer" universe. "Adeptus Mechanicus", although it is part of the Imperium, but has its own independent army. Periodically, it joins the general forces of the Imperium. The Adeptus Mechanicus army consists of four parts: the combat fleet, the titans, the skitarians and the Legio Cybernetics unit (uses robots in combat).

Titans

These are huge walking machines destined for destruction. The crew of each of them is headed by the princeps. And he, in turn, obeys servitors, engineers, tactical officer and moderator. For mechanics, titans are living creatures. They worship the spirits living in their computers. Every titanium is very important, so it is given its own name. It is made up of two words in high Gothic (similarity to the Latin language): regalis annihilatus, imperialus dominatus, apocalyptus creed and others.

The spirits of the titans are fundamentally different from the standard spirits of machines in which technocrats believe. Each titanium has its own thinking computer. Having connected to it, the adept can see the mental landscape.

In the unifying titans of the College there are several divisions: Divizio Investagatus, Divizio Telepathica and Divizio Mandati. The most important is Ordo Military. It includes fighting titans.

The crusade inspired new life in the creation of the Martian weapons, and the production of the Titans unfolded throughout the Galaxy. There were legions such as "Griffins of War", "Fire Wasp" and "Dead Head".

Soon the Horus Heresy split the ranks of the College of Titanicus. The Legion "The Dead Head" moved to the enemy side.

Mechanicums did not develop new types of titans. They only copied the ancient samples. War titans of the Warhammer universe are significantly inferior (both physically and mentally) to the first prototypes of the Era of Discord.

Imperial Knights

Reduced likeness of the Titans. Unlike the latter, not plasma reactors are used in combat, but cells with increased energy intensity. Mechanicums are engaged in the cultivation of knights on the most backward agro-worlds, under the control of techno-priests.

Skitarii

Along with the Titans actively protect the Imperium. Skitarii are infantry, which consists of cyborgs (half-machines-half-men). They are also divided into several subspecies. For example, balistherei, equipped with weapons to destroy the fortifications of the enemy. Or prorated, consisting of a metal skeleton and cyberrimplants.

Technetics

The defilement of Chaos contributed to the appearance in the ranks of mechanics of various kinds of technoeresy. The publication "Adepts of Darkness" tells about the world-forge of Kaironia, entirely infected with Chaos. The technocrats, who are at the head of this planet, fell into heresy. As a result, a self-sufficient world of cannibals appeared. At the same time, the top leadership of Caironia was united into a network, disabling individuality. And inefficient workers were processed into a nutritious mixture for other residents.
