A trap for bees. Information for Beginners of Beekeepers

Getting an apiary at home is a costly business. But a bee family can be obtained without investing. Useful insects can just be caught. A trap for bees, properly arranged, can keep a runaway swarm or just bees flying in the wild. The whole point is how to do it. After all, a trap for bees should somehow attract those smallest toilers. This device is a small homemade hive.

New bee dwelling

Traps are different. It is easier to create a house similar to a house. A common trap for bees has both side mounts and a tray. Such a hive is made from plywood in order to facilitate it. Experienced beekeepers suggest that making traps for bees requires sharpness. This house is not worth painting, let it retain its natural color.

But inside it must contain a framework for bees, where the construction of a new dwelling will start. For this purpose, the ones that were already in use and contain honeycomb, blackened from time, are best suited. The smell of such a framework attracts bee colonies. For lack of such devices, you can use frames with a honeycomb, apply propolis and mint. This is done quite simply: the trap for the bees is wiped inside and outside with propolis or mint leaves.

When installing the edge frames to the wall, a gap approximately equal to the thickness of the finger is maintained. To do this, racks are fixed between the wall and the top of the device. Setting the rest of the frame, you also need to observe a certain distance, but the design as a whole should not be heavier from such wisdoms. Therefore, in order to prevent bees and uterus from affecting the house, it is more reasonable to attach the frames to the walls of the trap with screws using the upper slats. And on them a canvas is laid on top in two layers, then a plywood or roofing cover is placed and fixed with screws along the perimeter of the house. The trap is lifted to a certain height and tied with a rope to the tree trunk.

Determining the location for the trap

Every work is carried out in a certain sequence. If this is an ordinary house, then before making a trap for bees, a place is chosen for its installation. Preference is usually given to a tree growing alone near the bee apiary. A meadow with blossoming honey-plants can be chosen. Experienced beekeepers know that the range of each trap has a limit of up to 2 kilometers. If there are several more inside the designated perimeter for a single trap, the bees will settle only in one of them.

The life of the bee family flows according to its strict schedule. The swarming period usually lasts from June to July. Proceeding from this pattern, after installing the trap, you need to look closely at the tray, so as not to miss the moment of activity. Noticing that the bees flew into the hive, immediately follows the tray to close and carry the trap to his apiary. The framework in which the construction of honeycomb began, together with the family is transferred to a full-fledged real hive. The bee-queen can be replaced at a more thoroughbred by the beekeeper.
