This award was established by the relevant Presidential Decree of May 9, 1994, No. 930 "On the Establishment of the Zhukov Medal", which became an addition to the Law "On State Awards of the Russian Federation". And on March 6 of next year the status and position of this state medal was determined.

Medal of Zhukov

On May 9, many veterans of the Great Patriotic War adorn Zhukov's medal on his chest. For what is given this award, it is not difficult to guess: for courage, steadfastness and, of course, for bravery shown by servicemen and civilians in the Red Army or Navy. Received it and the troops of the NKVD, as well as partisans with members of the underground for heroism during the fighting, not only with the fascists, but also with the Japanese militarists. Some were also awarded this award and in commemoration of the centenary of the birth of this great marshal. The basis for the award are documents that confirm the direct participation of a person in the Second World War 1941-1945-ies in the army or in battles against Japan.

Description

The medal of Marshal Zhukov is issued by the decree of the President of the Russian Federation. On its obverse side a relief image of the marshal himself is made. In the upper part of it is written: "GEORGIAN BEETLE". The bottom shows oak and laurel branches.

On the back of the center there is a phrase "FOR DIFFERENCES IN SERVICE". Along the edges Zhukov's medal is edged with a rim.

When wearing it on a uniform, a bar is used that is eight millimeters high and a tape width of twenty-four millimeters. A miniature copy with a diameter of 1.6 centimeters is worn on the shoe. The Zhukov medal is connected with a pentagonal bar by means of a ring and a lug. At the same time, the left half of the tape is red, and on the right - five longitudinal, identical in width alternating strips, three of which are black, and two - orange.

Regulation on rewarding

Today the Zhukov medal is given out to military men for their courage, selflessness and personal courage that they show in combat operations to protect the Fatherland and the interests of the Russian Federation, for distinction in carrying out their combat service or duty, as well as with special participation in maneuvers or exercises and for outstanding Indicators in combat training. The servicemen are awarded the Georgy Zhukov medal in accordance with the provisions of the current Regulations governing the issuance of state awards under the law of our country and in accordance with the Presidential Decree of June 1, 1995 under number 554.

In total, this award was received by about two and a half million veterans and ten thousand servicemen.

How to wear

The medal of Georgy Zhukov is located on the left side of the chest, in the presence of other equivalent RF awards, it must be worn after the distinctive sign of Suvorov. And for special occasions and everyday wear, its miniature copy is provided.

Noteworthy

An interesting fact is that Zhukov's medal was made with inaccuracy. There is an error in the image of the marshal himself. The fact is that the commander was awarded the Hero of the USSR four times. In this case, the third and fourth of them were handed to the marshal respectively in June 1945 and in December 1956. On the form in which Zhukov is depicted on a medal, there are all four Stars, but a similar uniform - a single-breasted and having a standing collar - was canceled in April 1945. And this means that there can be only two awards on such an image, those that the marshal received before.

Since February 20, 1997 in our country an unregistered public organization, which was called the "Permanent Presidium of the Congress of People's Deputies", began to issue medals with a similar name: "USSR Marshal Zhukov." She was awarded, as stated in the decree of the CPSU, "... veterans of the Second World War and Labor, as well as of the Armed Forces and law enforcement agencies in the USSR, people who suffered the Leningrad blockade and the most active participants in the popular-patriotic movement." It is interesting that the awards were offered to be financed by the awardees themselves. In early 2002, the Ministry of Justice warned Сажи Умалатову - chairman ППСНД that it is inadmissible to give out medals or other awards with the Soviet symbolics, and also has addressed in the State Office of Public Prosecutor with the statement on acceptance of measures of public prosecutor's reaction on the given fact. As a result, the issuance of pseudomedals was discontinued.
