Xenon: allowed or not? Can I put xenon in the fog?

Relatively recently, xenon lamps appeared on the market, and together with them there is a lot of controversy about whether xenon is allowed in Russia and in other countries. After all ten years ago these headlights were accessible only to owners of expensive cars, and in due course the xenon lamps began to use for beauty. How do you know if xenon was allowed or not?

What makes car enthusiasts install xenon?

The light from xenon with its characteristics is very similar to the daytime, which helps to see the outlines of objects much more clearly and better. Visibility, created by him in any weather, does not strain his eyes, as the rays pass through the drops of fog and rain, completely illuminating the roadway. The beam of xenon light is much wider, which improves the visibility of objects along the edge of the road and the roadside. It, unlike the halogen lamp, emits 100% more light, while spending less energy. The maximum service life of xenon is 3000 hours, and the halogen lamp is 500 hours.

Recently, the fashion for him has increased, and with it a problem of steadfast attention of the traffic police to car owners equipped with "xenon light" appeared, which created a certain barrier when installing lamps. The question "Has Xenon been allowed or not?" Excites many car tuners.

But in Russia?

The question "Is xenon allowed in Russia or is it officially banned?" Is very relevant. To the owners, so to speak, legal coverage of claims from the traffic police is not present if the headlights of the car are certified and are intended for use of a gas-discharge light source. Xenon itself in Russia is not prohibited, the responsibility for its use in the Code of Administrative Offenses is not specified. It should be noted that the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation provides for the liability of car owners who put the headlamps designed for incandescent lamps, as well as halogen lamps, but at the same time they install gas discharge lamps, that is, xenon lamps . As you can see, the law does not in all cases prohibit the use of such a light, but its installation may cause problems. "Xenon allowed or not?" - it is worth asking also those who have long been using it.

Reason for ban

When asked why xenon is banned, there is a very simple answer: ordinary headlights are not designed and are not certified for this type of light source. Their light is scattered in such a way that it dazzles other road users, and this can lead to a deplorable result.

According to GOST and certification, if the headlights of the car owner originally provided incandescent lamps, halogen, then the installation of xenon in them is prohibited.

The question "Is xenon allowed?" Is a priority before buying lamps with this type of light. After all, many believe that the beam is very bright and leads to the blindness of the driver moving on the opposite lane. This opinion is not entirely correct and, mainly, due to the fact that car owners produce the installation themselves, without knowledge of certain knowledge, which leads to improper functioning of the headlights. This is fraught with the fact that halogen reflectors using xenon lamps can shine anywhere, but not on the road, for example, to neighboring, oncoming cars, which creates discomfort for drivers. There is also the opinion that xenon itself improves the visibility of the road: the more light, the more you can see better, which is also erroneous. So is xenon solved? Yes, only if it is installed by a professional in a certain type of headlight.

Anti-fog and xenon

The question of whether xenon is allowed in the fog-lights is of interest to many motorists. First, before you understand the legality of use, you need to consider the very term "fog". This is additional lighting, which is also a spotlight. From which it follows that it should be marked accordingly, for example: H - headlamp with halogen lamps, D - headlamp in which a gas discharge lamp (xenon) can be used.

To determine the legality of the use of xenon, traffic police usually compare the markings. If the glass of the headlamp is labeled D, then this xenon lamp installation is legal. It should be remembered that a certified product has an automatic corrector, that is, when the headlight is switched on, the light is initially directed to the ground, and then rises to a certain required level. Also for xenon the machine must be equipped with headlight washers.

Xenon and halogens

To date, the installation of xenon in halogen headlights is prohibited. In accordance with the law, the car owner may be deprived of the rights for a period of 6 months to 1 year, and also a ban on the use of the car is added to it until all the shortcomings are eliminated.

If the car owner installed fog lights designed specifically for xenon, then he does not need to worry, and also this applies to the owners of foreign cars, where the xenon was originally. In general, most foreign manufacturers install fog lamps with the marking D.

And if you really want to ...

And, of course, any motorist can think about whether it is possible to put xenon officially at will. The answer is yes. The process is rather complicated, but having collected the necessary documentation, having spent up to 30,000 rubles for conclusions, optics and commission, you can install xenon not only on a foreign car, but even on a VAZ.

What do you need to install xenon?

First, the car owner, wishing to update his car, will need to contact the traffic police. There you need to write an application for making changes in the design of the vehicle. Then you need to contact the technical supervision department in the traffic police to inspect the car. After the owner receives the resolution of the head of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate, they begin the conversion of the headlights, at the same time it will require the search for an organization that issues an opinion on the possibility and procedure for making changes to the car's design. To do this, you will need to send scanned copies of documents: an application for re-equipment, certificates for the material, a copy of the passport, copies of all parties to the PTA and a copy of the certificate of registration of your vehicle. Then, as soon as the conclusion is made, it can be collected, in advance paid for the services rendered.

The collected and provided documentation should be converted and adjusted headlights, as well as technical inspection. According to the current Technical Regulations, the installation of xenon requires the presence of a working headlight washer and autocorrector.

Further, it is necessary to fill in the declaration, which will contain information on the amount and quality of the work, contributing to the change in the design of the vehicle.

And safely in the traffic police!

To complete this difficult procedure, you will need to contact the traffic police to obtain a certificate of compliance with the design of your vehicle safety requirements, attaching the necessary documents to this. The car owner who received such a certificate must necessarily carry it with him, as well as other documents on the car.

To the question: "Has Xenon been allowed or not?" - there is no single answer. It is possible to answer "yes", if it is provided by the car manufacturer or if the car owner wishes, the design of the vehicle was changed in accordance with all requirements and issue of the relevant certificate. You can answer "no", because the prohibition is an independent installation of xenon lamps in the headlights, which are not designed for him, because in this case it is impossible to properly and correctly adjust the beam of light. Also, in addition to xenon headlights, you need to have an auto-corrector for the angle of inclination and washers.
