Winter depression. How to avoid it?

Perhaps, there are few people who can safely say that the winter depression is not for them. Alas, the facts speak for themselves: one way or another, but the symptoms of the winter depression are experienced by every third. And here domestic statistics differ little from foreign ones. For example, in Germany and England, a third of residents admitted that they are suffering a hard time during the autumn-winter months.

What is the winter depression and is there salvation from it?

Specialists call winter depression a seasonal emotional disorder. Perhaps this definition does not reveal the whole essence of depression, but only general symptoms. Winter depression is nothing but a violation of the emotional sphere, which entails a disruption of the work of the whole organism. If it was only in emotions!

So, a depressed mood entails disturbances in sleep. This is just one of the options. No, sleep disturbance does not mean that you are suffering from insomnia. On the contrary, you can sleep for a long time, but it is difficult to call such a recovery. Wake up and again feel tired. Sometimes early awakenings or frequent awakenings in the middle of the night can disturb.

In addition, have you noticed that bouts of drowsiness happen for no apparent reason? It seems to have slept 8 or even 10 hours, and in the middle of the day the eyes are closed again and thoughts are no longer about work, but only about how to live until evening, come home and again collapse into bed.

Another depressive state is expressed in attachment to something, even depending. This means that you often want to "depress" depression. Food, as many think, raises the mood and makes you feel somewhat better. Therefore, often between words winter depression and dependence on food can be put an equal sign. But such an imaginary "treatment" of depression by food, or, as mentioned above, seizing - can play a cruel joke and only aggravate the situation. As a result, excess weight appears, the state of health worsens, that is, again, depression is aggravated.

In general, and would be glad to get rid of this scourge, but not everything is as simple as previously thought.

The winter depression, as a rule, comes in November and lasts until March-April. Just think - 4-5 months are just torn out of life!
Why does depression occur?

Depression is the result of a deficit of sunlight, more precisely hormones of serotonin and melanin, which are produced with the help of the hypothalamus and which is activated from the sun. These hormones also affect sleep, appetite and even sexual attraction.
Are there ways to protect yourself or somehow neutralize the effect of the autumn-winter depression? How to cure depression? Yes, you can minimize these consequences. To do this, you often have to be outdoors, always in the bright, desirable morning time of the day. Walking is necessary in any weather, at least half an hour a day. But the matter is complicated by the fact that many work and go to work in the dark hours of the day - early in the morning, and return in the evening, when from the day sun, alas, there is nothing left. The day itself is spent in the office, sitting at the computer. Lesson, too, is not very useful for the body. And on weekends I want one thing - to sleep, because sleep seems to us saving. But alas, often after sleep, there is still greater weakness. Therefore, walk on weekends, make long walks, for example, go on skis, skate, build with the children snowmen. Laziness? Fatigue? Unwillingness? And you try, show willpower, but after such walks and active sports you will forget about all the melancholy!
