Vanuatu: where is the wild pearl?

Exotic island state, located in the Pacific Ocean near Australia, stretched for almost a thousand kilometers. Tour operators have recently discovered for us this truly unique route with magnificent natural views, a chic underwater world and always benevolent local aborigines. And it's not for nothing that the archipelago, consisting of scattered islands, of which more than sixty are inhabited, is also called the land of smiles. An amazing state, whose name translates as "eternal land", was formed as a result of volcanic activity on the ocean floor.

And now in the territory where Vanuatu is located, there are often small tremors of 10 active volcanoes that do not cause special damage to the local nature. The geographical location of the paradise is very interesting: on the one hand, the mountainous islands are surrounded by the Pacific Ocean, on the other - the Coral Sea. But there are practically no rivers here, this feature is due to the tectonic origin of the porous soil of the lost world.

History of discovery and independence

In the XVII century inhabited by inhabitants of Oceania, the archipelago, where Vanuatu is currently located, was first discovered by the Spanish expedition. After a hundred years, the English cartographer D. Cook began to conduct his studies there, after which the territory was called New Hebrides. In the early twentieth century, the authorities of France and Britain claim their rights to these scattered, distinctive islands. The indigenous population was forcibly taken to heavy work in Australia. Until 1980, a small condominium was the colonial possession of these countries, until the state of Vanuatu received its official independence and new name. The capital of the archipelago is the largest and most developed city of Port Vila, the main trade and economic center on the island of Efate.

Originality of the islands

The small Republic of Vanuatu, consisting of 6 provinces, has experienced several migration flows from the countries of Asia and Europe, and now it is inhabited by 114 nationalities speaking a vast number of languages and dialects. The inhabitants of the independent state live not only due to well-established agricultural activities in the villages, but also tourist routes. The untouched paradise of Oceania has acquired a reputation as an original resort with tribes living there, leading a way of life that is far from the views of Europeans. Selected leaders, whose word is for all law, often bring sacrifices to the ancient spirits.

In the sites of the archipelago where Vanuatu is located, Russian scientists discovered the dolmens, considered to be the main shrines, stone constructions that conveyed to the leaders the desires of the departed ancestors. They were also used in local religious rituals, which continue to this day. Till now the natives participate in ceremonial dances, depicting mythical beings and spirits. And the famous drawings on the sand clearly reflect the beliefs of the inhabitants and ancient legends.

Tourist paradise

All the large islands of Vanuatu are curious about the variety of amazing sights created by nature itself, which are not found in other exotic corners of the globe. This is a real tourist paradise in the tropics, remembered with gorgeous views. The island of Efate is extremely popular with tourists. Beautiful lagoons, amazing coral reefs, ancient ships, sunken in depth, attract all those keen on diving. The incredibly clear water of the bay allows you to see frolicking fish at a depth of 50 meters.

Not far from the capital of the Pacific state is a cascade of scenic waterfalls, hiding in exotic rainforests and has long become a favorite place for all tourists. They say that the first thresholds do not strike with splendor, but the last, powerful 40-meter jets make you stiffen with admiration.

Volcanoes and magic

The territory where Vanuatu is located is located in a zone with tectonic activity, so it is not surprising that travelers are interested in this unique side of the archipelago. Here is the holy for the natives Yasur volcano, erupting for 8 centuries. And this is the only place in the world, accompanied by small earthquakes, is accessible for tourists. The unusual island of Ambrim is famous for its ancient volcano. In two huge craters, a hot lava splashes, solidifying with dark currents after the ejection.

The inhabitants of the island are the only indigenous people who are seriously engaged in magical rites. Local sorcerers, professing ancient cults, are considered the best predictors, and all Europeans come here to find out their destiny.

Submerged mail

The amazing state of Vanuatu is famous for the fact that the post office is under water near the capital. The attraction is located at a depth, and it is impossible to get there without special equipment. Often enjoying the underwater beauty, you can send waterproof postcards, extinguished by a special underwater embossing, to all corners of the globe.

A happy state justifies its name, because nowhere will you see so many smiling friendly faces. Tourists are loved and greeted here with great joy. Therefore, those who come here once hasten to repeat the exotic route.
