Where is the Manor Otrada? Manor Otrada: how to get there?

Otrada is a farmstead located in the Moscow region. In the Stupino district the Lopasnya river flows, on its bank there is a historical estate, which is one of the largest country complexes. Famous for the fact that fully preserved formed in the XVII-XIX centuries form. But a beautiful historical and architectural monument is on the verge of extinction.

Founder of the estate

Otrada is a manor founded by the director of the Academy of Sciences, the youngest of the five Orlov brothers, who were elevated under Catherine II. Vladimir Grigorievich became an orphan very early and remained in the care of his brothers. He studied abroad, but he loved everything Russian and never spoke French. Becoming the director of the academy, he brought her out of lamentable condition and even tried to keep all the documentation in Russian. In 1774, Count Vladimir Grigoryevich resigns and settles in Semenovsk. Catherine II was granted the land of the Khatun Volost to Alexei Grigorievich, who gave some of them to his younger brother. According to some sources, VG Orlov himself bought this land.

In the English manner

Otrada, the estate owned by Orlov and Orlov-Davydov until the revolution, after it was barbarously looted, the good was taken out by dozens of supplies. The first owner began to build it in 1774, that is, immediately after retirement. He, according to contemporaries, invited one of the best architects of the time, but there was no documentary evidence of who exactly - K. Blank or V. Bazhenov. Many experts are inclined to believe that the latter, since the building reminds Mikhailovsky Castle of the work of V. Bazhenov. There are other opinions. It is known only that originally the mansion was conceived as the home of an English lord (the English count, probably, loved, not like the French). It was supposed to be built on a high hill, and he himself had to rise to three floors. But at the request of the owner, the mansion was moved closer to the river, and he became a two-story as a result.

Noble Nest

From 1774 to 1779, the country estate Otrada was built. "Homestead" - a term that assumes a single complex of residential, economic, park, some other buildings and, as a rule, includes a park. The Orlovs Manor, located at the foot of the hill, is surrounded by a beautiful landscape park. Landscaping, or irregular, the park is a purely English invention. Another one of its name is English. Obviously, thanks to him, the estate of Semenovskoe-Otrada was supposed to resemble the possession of the lord. In the estate there is a church of St. Nicholas the Wonder-worker, the chapel of which is consecrated in honor of Vladimir. The permission for its construction was received in 1777. Among the outbuildings there is a barn decorated with white brick, a forge built in pseudo-Gothic style, several greenhouses and a tomb located in a pine grove. Initially, it was made in the form of a rotunda, and the dead Orlov brothers were buried there.

Subsequent owners

The daughter of Vladimir Grigorievich later replaced the dilapidated rotunda with the beautiful mausoleum of the work of D. Gillardi, a Swiss architect who worked in Moscow. With her, the estate of Orlova Otrada was sold. In 1845, shortly before EV Novosiltsev's death, the nee Orlov sold the estate to his nephew VP Davydov. He also invited prominent architects for his accomplishment. With all subsequent masters, the estate of Semenovskoe-Otrada was improved and improved. At VP Davydov, terraces-rotundas were attached to the manor-house, and two greenhouses on the side facing the park. The park itself has undergone a change for the better. And Count A.V. Orlov-Davydov, becoming the next owner of Otrada, placed a bust of Catherine II, made of bronze, in front of the house, as a sign of deep gratitude. All the Orlovs considered her a benefactress of their kind. Here, for a hundred years, there was a personal library and a telescope of M. Lomonosov, there were famous writers and the best people of Russia.

A sad picture

Of course, after the revolution the estate was damaged - it was ruined and looted. Then in it there were both a technical school and a school of the NKVD. Now the beautiful manor is abandoned by all and is in terrible condition. Once the grandiose palace ensemble, famous for its busts of all the Orlov brothers' works of the brilliant Shubin, is listed in the list of "100 World Monuments under Threat of Destruction", and this is encouraging. It is also gratifying that the manor is guarded, as it is located on the territory of the FSB sanatorium. You can get there by personal transport - along the F-108 highway.
