Despite the greatness of nature, crystal clear and picturesque surrounding picture, there are not so many tourists. But why do not people come to these places so often? Where is the lake of Jack London and why does it have such an unusual name?

Where is the lake

This beautiful lake can be found in the upper reaches of the Kolyma River in the Magadan Region, in the Yagodninsky District. It was located at an altitude of 803 meters, occupying the depression of Mount Annachag. These places are part of the mountain ranges of the Chersky Range. The nearest village of Yagodnoe is 70 km from the lake.

Description of the lake

The lake changes its external characteristics depending on the weather. So, on a rainy, gloomy day, the lake of Jack London (photo of the pond shown above) becomes gloomy and gray. But if the sun comes out, it turns into a real blue pearl, and it seems that this is the most delightful place in the Far East. Now this territory is a natural park, followed by the supervision of the Magadan Reserve.

The lake itself stretched for 10 km in the north-west direction. This cold pool has a maximum depth of 50 meters. The majestic lake feeds on the river Purga and several streams, two of them bear the names Studen and Unknown. The latter, flowing a lot of mountain kilometers, connects the lake with the Kolyma River.

The surrounding natural environment

Lake Jack London is surrounded by many smaller lakes. Among them there are very remarkable. This lake Gray Chaika, Dream, Invisible, Anemone, Neighborhood and Kudinovskoe. Mountain slopes are covered with lichen glades, cedar elfins and rare larch forests. Such beauty in places reaches an altitude of 1100 meters, and above the forest borders the mountain tundra has grown. Also outside the forest lands are gravelly deserts.

Weather

In this area there is a cold, sharply continental climate. Winter is long, and summer is too short. Warm days come only for a couple of weeks. This winter starts here in October, by January the frosts drop to -33 FROM. Periodically there are strong snowstorms. Precipitation falls unevenly, and on the eastern slopes there are huge snow caps, so there can be an avalanche at any moment.

Lake Jack London is covered with ice in October, and the crust can last until the end of June. Winter continues until the May days, until the snow begins to fall. Even in summer, the air remains cool. In July, the average temperature is only 12 degrees, and the hottest days can show the thermometer 20 FROM. Sometimes it rains and floods begin. At the end of the summer, frosts begin and snow breaks.

Is it possible to rest on the lake

Since the Jack London Lake in the Magadan Region is incredibly beautiful, the Yagodninsky authorities are thinking about how to make these regions more civilized so that tourists can come here. But while only the bravest who visit the wild, harsh nature, which Jack London wrote in books, come here. In winter, you can go skiing, and so rest, rather, passive.

On the nearby lake of the Dancing Harious there is the "Battle" camp, it is intended for campers. For guests, the director of the base can melt the sauna. In addition, the lake. Fishing on the lake

It is interesting that for spawning these fish choose not only streams, but also sand and pebble bottom near the shores of the lake.

How did the name of the lake

A lake with an unusual name causes guests and tourists the same question: "Where does he get such a beautiful name?" The answer will depend on who it is assigned to. Old-timers say that the pioneers of this pond on the shore found the book "Martin Eden," written by Jack London.

But geologists tell a completely different version of the appearance of such a name. Almost all researchers in these parts liked to read the works of J. London. The first geological expedition to Kolyma thought that one of the natural objects they call the name of their favorite writer. So, PI Skornyakov, who worked in 1932 near this picturesque lake, appropriated to him the name of Jack London.

How to get there

Since the lake of Jack London (Russia) is not far from the village of Yagodnoye, the first thing to do is to make the way to this settlement. You need to go along the Kolyma highway. But, unfortunately, it is in a broken state. This road was built by prisoners back in the late 30's. It was necessary to connect the two "arms" of the Kolyma track and shorten the path from the mine. Until the 60s, the track was actively exploited, but as soon as it was transported less often, it was not repaired by anyone.

In addition, after reaching the village, you will have to drive another 70 km to the lake. From this road remained a broken track. That is why in these parts there are not so many tourists, because you can only go by your own transport. But very few people will sacrifice their car, because after the trip you will need repair. It also happens that in rainy weather cars break into the precipice. If the weather has deteriorated on the street, you can spend a whole daylight day on the road from Berry to the lake. With such a journey can only cope with the all-wheel drive car, but on condition that the street is dry.
