If we make a survey of the population about attractive places in Russia, then, in most cases, there will not be a city like Belgorod in the list. But there are a lot of interesting places and picturesque places here!

It will not be a mistake to say that the majority of Russians do not even answer the question of where Belgorod is. Why? Perhaps this is due to the fact that the town is small. The population is barely half a million people. In the city people live about 100 different nationalities and nationalities. Undoubtedly, most of them are Russians. They account for 92%. The second step in the list is occupied by Ukrainians, who make up 1.5%.

For those who do not know where Belgorod is located: it stretches in the southern part of the Central Russian Upland, 697 km from Moscow towards the southern direction. From Ukraine it is separated by a distance of 40 km. The city looks great on the picturesque hills, which are cut by branched ravines. Most of it is located on the right bank of the Seversky Donets (right tributary of the Don).

In addition to answering the question about where Belgorod is located, it is recommended to get acquainted with its most interesting history. In short, the city was founded in September 1596 according to the decree of Tsar Fyodor Ioannovich. Then there was a 70-meter high hill on which the first border fortress was built. Thanks to it from 1658 Belgorod was considered one of the main districts, which had an 800-kilometer defensive line. He defended the Moscow kingdom from the invasion of the Crimean Tatars. The strategic importance of the city declined in the early 18th century. And after the conquest of the Crimea, he was generally expelled from active fortresses. From 1727 to 1779 the city was the center of Belgorod province, and since 1954 - the regional center.

Just to know where Belgorod is located is not enough. It is recommended to visit this city and see its beauty. There are many interesting places here, among them the Smolensk Cathedral, located on Slavy Avenue. An equally attractive architectural structure is the Transfiguration Cathedral, which houses the relics of St. Joasaph. Here is the miraculous icon of Nikolai Ratny. This temple is located on the street of the Transfiguration. One can not help noting the Marfo-Mariinsky Convent, located near the Intercession Church.

The most interesting places are not only the architectural structures of the city. A curious place is the Cathedral Square of Belgorod, which is the heart of the city. Here is the theater named after Shchepkin, the Eternal Flame and the monument to Lenin. In the center of the square there is a memorable sign of the Belgorod region. Immediately beyond the theater is Victory Park. Here, vacationers discover the picturesque banks of the river Vyazelki. The decoration of the park is a magnificent fountain. Of interest is the pool, which is decorated with two bowls. In one there is a ball rotating under the streams of water, and in the second there is a sculpture of a lion, which is a symbol of the city.

In addition, the city has many museums. For those who go on holiday with children, it will be interesting to visit the local zoo, which is located on the opposite bank of the river Vyazelki.

Not only the city, but the entire Belogorod region is famous for its attractions. So, it is recommended to see the famous oak tree growing in the village of Dubovoe. It was planted more than 300 years ago by Bogdan Khmelnitsky himself . It is thanks to this tree that the village has such a name. Many Belgorod residents try to come here to relax from the city's bustle and stroll along the cleanest manicured park.
